Top Ten Authors That I’d Put On My Auto-Buy List
This week is all about authors we love so much that we would buy their books as they are released, no questions asked.
1. J.K. Rowling
Umm, plain and simple, she’s the queen. I have all her books so far and way beyond my love for Harry Potter, I love her writing style. It’s beautiful and it sucks you in, no matter the story. (Yes, I loved The Casual Vacancy (review).) She’s also a master at characterizations and that is one of the most important things to me.
2. Jay Kristoff
Jay has to have one of the greatest online personalities ever. His blog posts are hilarious, but also on Twitter he is constantly amusing. Of course this says nothing about his writing, but when I finally did read Stormdancer (review) I was sold. This guy is a genius. And he gets bonus points for being one of the first authors I’ve had good contact with via Twitter.
3. Suzanne Collins
Yes, everyone knows I’m deeply in love with The Hunger Games. I haven’t read Suzanne’s previous works, but that is on my list. The thing is, with THG, I was just amazed by how deep Katniss’s characterization went. It was amazingly thorough, and the dystopian world she created was frighteningly realistic. So I’ll buy any of her works to come.
4. Tahereh Mafi
It’s no big secret that I love Shatter Me because of its unique writing style and deep characterization, so the fact that Tahereh makes my auto-buy list shouldn’t be much of a surprise. She really challenged conventions writing this series by writing like a crazy person to portray a crazy person. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sucked me in and I just felt the novel was so personal and deep. I’m really excited to see more from her. And I met Tahereh in November! She’s cool. She’s also awesome on Twitter.
5. Rick Riordan
This may be a little unfair, since I still need to get The Kane Chronicles, but I’m absolutely in love with Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus. Rick is a master storyteller. While it may be a little more middle grade than young adult, his stories are so full of creative adventures and he exploits my love of mythology in the best way. I would definitely buy all his books.
6. Brodi Ashton
Brodi is, in my opinion, the queen of cliffhangers. And while that may be really frustrating at times, it does say a lot about her storytelling ability. Throughout her novels I’m on an emotional rollercoaster the whole time and I absolutely love that.
7. Dan Brown
Though I still haven’t read his pre-Robert Langdon works, I absolutely love Dan Brown’s novels. I’m a bit of a conspiracy nut at times, and he completely fulfills all my fantasies about those kinds of questions. Angels & Demons will always be one of my favorite books out there.
8. John Green
John is just awesome. Does this need elaboration?
I’m gonna go with no so this post gets a little shorter.
|This says it all…|
9. Jennifer L. Armentrout
I’m a bit scared to put Jennifer on the list because this lady just puts out books like the world is ending. What was it, 5 in 2012? I don’t want to go bankrupt, but I do really love her stories and how well she relates to young adults. And the romance that she writes is absolutely fantastic and has me drooling constantly.
10. Laini Taylor
Why yes, I’m putting Laini on the list despite only having read ONE of her books.
Still please don’t kill me for not getting around to Days of Blood & Starlight… But this lady has such a way with words. It’s absolutely beautiful. One book was all it took to convince me, and all her books are on my to-read list.
So… which authors made your auto-buy list?
