Monthly Digest: July 2013

July 2013: the month of long commutes and getting used to working life…

In July, I read a total of 7 books (+1 novella) and posted 8 reviews & 3 discussions. It’s been a month of contemporary reads for me, for the most part. I guess summer really does inspire contemporary romance. But the stats are down a bit, due to me working full-time now.

Favorite Read

This month has been all across the board, in terms of ratings. There were books I totally LOVED and books I totally hated (GRR ADELA GRR), and everything in between. Aptly, the average rating for this month is 3.3. But I did add two books to my all-time favorites list, so overall I’m still pleased.

Popular Posts

Non-Bookish Obsessions

  • Covert Affairs. This show is just brilliant.
  • Austin & Ally. I have an unhealthy amount of feels for this show that is soooo not meant for me. BUT EEP. #iregretnothing
  • This chocolate cake in a mug recipe. SO SIMPLE. And so yummy. A perfect pick me up after a hard day of work.
  • Another obsession, extension of the previous one, is the Sorted Food YouTube channel

    In Real Life

    • I started working! July 10th, I started working full-time at my internship. It’s been GREAT so far. I love my team, the people on my floor, and the company culture in general. The work itself is also exactly what I thought would be most interesting for me during my university studies. I really feel like it’s going to be one of the best experiences of my life.
    • I’m looking to move to Amsterdam. My commute right now is pretty long (1.5 hours each way). I don’t mind that, because I use the time to read, and that’s pretty relaxing. But I can’t really leave work until after 6, and to get home between 7:30 and 8 each night (if I’m lucky and there’s no train delays) and then still having to cook and eat… it’s a bummer.
    • All this adds up to me being home and awake about 4-5 hours per day (including the time it takes me to get ready in the morning and cook and eat at night). So if you’re wondering why the content on the blog is less frequent and why I’m commenting on other blogs only in the weekend… here’s your answer.
    • The weather’s been beautiful! Though there were a few days that were just too hot, I was luckily in the freezing air conditioning at work. I did manage to go to the park one afternoon with one of my best friends though. We just lay in the sun, and we actually both fell asleep, haha.
    • My best friend came to visit. He was only here for one day, but it was nice to see him again. I started making plans to hopefully go to London for a long weekend in October/November. (So, yeah, Amber, this’ll happen 😉 )
    • I MET JUDITH YESTERDAY!!!!! So that happened. And she was awesome. And it was fun. And yeah.

    Let’s Talk!

How was your month? What were your favorite reads? Which of my posts did you like the best? Did I miss any interesting posts over at your blog? Did anything interesting happen in real life?

      1. I'm digging this monthly digest. I especially like that you included things that happened in real life too and your non-bookish obsessions. I'll have to look into Covert Affairs haha. Also, the typography post was fantastic. A lot of times I don't think about typography but it really makes a difference into whether or not I like a cover and the ones you posted were gorgeous!
My recent post Fitzgerald Freakouts (1)

      2. So cool that you met Judith, that is awesome. And yes to the all-time favorite books! I'll be reading A Midsummer's Nightmare soon and I already love The DUFF so that's exciting. And so glad that your internship is going well. I loved your Non-Readers and Typography post and of course, sorry about all the Adela drama. Good to know that it didn't bum you out much. my favorite read of the months was definitely Just One Day and The Distance Between Us. Sooo good.

        Enjoy August! <3

Yay for meeting Judith! I kept seeing you guys talk about it in Twitter! Hope you guys had a blast together 🙂 I still haven't met another book blogger, but I'm sure it'll happen… someday!

Congrats on the internship, sounds like a great place to work, especially if you feel like it's going to be one of the best experiences of your life! I've never had that feeling before at a job!

And ew, that commute. Bleh. I mean, yay for having time to read but that just sounds scary to me. Of course, since I'll be heading to London in a month for school I need to just get over my fear of long commutes but still. I'll remain in denial for as long as I can 😉

Hope you have an awesome August Debby 😀

      4. Aw man, dreaming of getting quoted in a book… that would be amazing!!!! I hope you get to meet some bloggers soon though 🙂

YES, when I move to Amsterdam, I will definitely take some picture posts 🙂 And thank you. It's really hard to keep up with blogging right now, so just, fingers crossed that I find an apartment soon!!

EEEEEEEEEP ANOTHER FAN OF COVERT AFFAIRS 😀 <3 season 2 is really good so far 🙂 I just LOVE Auggie and Annie – they are AMAZING.

Haha, cake in a mug is one of the SIMPLEST things ever, but sure, if you ever visit, I can make it for you xD

YES the other is The DUFF 🙂 I still need to read Shut Out, but I've heard it's not that great. *shrug* I will go for it anyway. D: I didn't know about the short story! THANKS. Going to read it today 🙂

Aww, thanks for linking to my posts 🙂

      5. Aww, thank you 🙂 I hope you do check out Covert Affairs because it's fantastic 🙂 and thanks! Glad you liked the typography 🙂 Maybe I'll do it again sometime if I have another set of covers I love 🙂

      6. 😀 EEP I hope you love A Midsummer's Nightmare because asdjfkl; I cried. So good. 🙂

The Adela drama was much less than it could have been, so to be honest, I'm relieved. Blogging itself is wearing on me though. Might need to take a break soon.

OOH I love BOTH those books 🙂 they're also all-time faves for me 🙂

      7. OOH I hope you LOVE The DUFF but you probably will because it is FANTASTIC. 🙂 I'll keep an eye out for your thoughts. 🙂

      8. haha, it was sooooo fun 🙂 really! We were both a bit nervous, but it ended up being just like Twitter hahaa. I almost made her cry when I mentioned the Veronica Mars books and she had to witness me flailing about Austin and Ally xD You're moving to London right?? I'll probably be going there in October or November so maybe WE could meet 🙂

I knowwww what you mean. I've heard everyone and their mother complain about work or the office or their colleagues, and I have NONE of that. I may be in a honeymoon phase, but seriously, it's just amazing right now. And I am loving it.

😀 Hope you have an awesome August too 😀
