Top Ten Books I Read In 2013

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. It’s finally the last day of the year! I honestly can’t believe that because it feels like just yesterday it was August. I don’t know how the time has past so quickly. Um. Anyway. So I read 93 books this year. o_O Wow. Yeah, making a top ten out of that is not working for me (too many amazing books!), so I’ll give you my top ten 2013 releases and pre-2013 releases. I actually have a document ranking all 93 books I read in order, so […]

Book Review: Looking for Alaska by John Green

Book Review: Looking for Alaska by John Green

Here we go, issue 328597 in “The Chronicles of Debby, the Heartless Bitch”. As much as I hoped that I would fall in love with Looking for Alaska like almost everyone else and be reduced to a sobbing mess as I was practically promised I would be… it just didn’t work out. Grief stories are officially not for me. I should say up front that I’ve already read The Fault in Our Stars and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, and thus, I am familiar with his writing style and devices he typically uses. And that’s issue number one. His characters are all extremely […]

ARC Book Review: The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine

ARC Book Review: The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine

The Promise of Amazing promised amazing things. ZING. I had to get that out of the way. I just had to. Now that we’ve gotten the title pun in here, let’s see… did it deliver on its promise? Tragically, no. But I won’t say that this book was completely terrible either. I mean, it has a pretty cover. Look at that! Ain’t it purty? If one enters this book in the right mood, it can be quite enjoyable. Let me clarify what I mean. When I started reading The Promise of Amazing, I was desperately in need of some winter-themed fluff. And this book takes […]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

I just wanted to take the time today to say Merry Christmas to all of you, my lovely readers. I know not everyone celebrates Christmas, so if you celebrate some other holiday, I hope that was great for you, but as I do celebrate Christmas I wanted to share some of my favorite things about this holiday. 1. Putting up the Christmas tree! One of my favorite things as a kid, that I always claimed as my own little job, was to put up the Christmas tree. I could never wait for us to do that and just loved spending hours on it. I also […]

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. These are the books I marked as the highest priority on my Amazon wishlist. Haha, I’m not actually sure if it’s all that accurate because my taste in which books I want changes so rapidly. But anyway, I hope I’ll get at least some of these. 1. Graceling by Kristin Cashore Yeah, I bought Bitterblue a while back, because it was on sale, but I still haven’t bought Graceling. I need this to happen. I need to get in on this series. 2. Leviathan by Scott […]

Book Review: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente

Book Review: The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente

When I first heard of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, a title that is far too long to keep writing full out and which I thus fondly dub “the first Fairyland book”, I instantly thought I had to have it. The title was too quirky to pass up, it had illustrations, and good reviews from friends. And certainly it was a most enjoyable read. What you’ll immediately be struck with in reading this book is the beautiful writing and imaginative storytelling. Particularly for middle grade, this is a rather rare find. But right off the bat I could […]

ARC Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

ARC Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

Before Cress, I was already listing The Lunar Chronicles as one of my favorite series at the moment. But Cress freaking cemented it as one of my all-time favorite series. This book. THIS BOOK. With its 560 pages. It was amazing and addictive, and by far the best of the series so far. Cress has to be pretty much my favorite character. Right from the first chapter, I was in love with her. She reminded me a lot of Clara, as Oswin, in the Asylum of the Daleks, the first episode of series 7 of Doctor Who. Nope, I can’t pass up a Doctor Who […]

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. Wow, I love this topic, because it got me to look back on this year and see how many amazing books I read this year. I was still so much of a n00b at the beginning of 2013, so I had a lot of epic series to get into. Anyway, let’s just get on with it. 1. Kasie West I keep going on and on about how much I loved Pivot Point. It is an all-time favorite, and I just loved the skillful storytelling method Kasie […]
