How to Keep Track – My 2014 Yearbook & Other Useful Spreadsheets

How to Keep Track – My 2014 Yearbook & Other Useful Spreadsheets

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed the past few months that making spreadsheets has become somewhat of a hobby for me. I dunno what it is. I get some downtime at work, and I get an idea of something that I want to keep track of, and there I go – a spreadsheet making machine. I’m only a little bit OCD. Just a little. Okay, maybe a lot. *cough* But these compulsive spreadsheet making tweets were apparently well liked! And I thought, “Why not share the method to my madness?” Since inspiration is coming lately not in the form of discussion […]

Book Review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Book Review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

I’ve loved the movie version of Howl’s Moving Castle since I first saw it years ago, so I was really happy when Daph suggested this as a book club pick. It’s one of those books that I was meaning to read sometime, but I needed to be reminded and given that extra push, since it is a pretty old release. So I am glad that I finally got to reading this, and I did enjoy it, but it didn’t have a wow factor. What I truly love about Howl’s is the beautiful writing style. This is regarded as somewhat of a fantasy classic, and it’s […]

2013 End of Year Book Survey

2013 End of Year Book Survey

This survey was created by the lovely Jamie at the Perpetual Page-Turner! It might be a bit late, but I absolutely didn’t want to do it before the year was over, in case the last couple reads were absolutely amazing. So, yeah. Late, maybe. But I regret nothing. (I’ll have a personal review of 2013 later involving blog statistics, but that’ll be way late because I want to get my reviews reformatted first.) Best in Books 2013 1. Best book you read in 2013? I read 93 books this year. I already cheated on the TTT of this topic and made it 20 books. And […]

Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2014

Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2014

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I don’t really do resolutions often, but I did come up with some interesting ones, and since I just finished writing my 2013 End of Year Book Survey, I’d like some things to report back on next year. So heeeeere we go. 1. Branch out and try new genres. Last year, for the first time, I strayed from my regular fantasy/science-fiction/dystopia genres, and I read a lot of contemporaries. It was a huge success. Before I honestly thought contemporary wasn’t really for me, but I have […]

ARC Book Review: Witch Finder by Ruth Warburton

ARC Book Review: Witch Finder by Ruth Warburton

*exhales* First off, NO. I had to get that out of the way. I tried really hard to like Witch Finder. I went in with the lowest expectations possible, because several of my reader friends were reading it just before I did and warned me that it didn’t look that good. A pity, because I still absolutely adore the cover. But, as it was a review copy, I went ahead and read it anyway. For the most part, I was not amused. I received this review copy rather late and was in a bit of a reading slump, so to still have my review up […]

Book Haul #5: The Christmas Edition

Book Haul #5: The Christmas Edition

It’s been almost a month since the last book haul, but that’s because I went on a book buying ban to prevent myself from buying books that I would possibly be getting for Christmas. It was a good thing, because my shelves are getting overloaded as it is. But so now, of course, I have a huge haul to show you. The Christmas Gifts: I was stunned by how many books I got for Christmas, honestly. And my dad stuck to my wishlist wonderfully, getting me my most highly sought after books. The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider: Good thing that I got this […]

Book Review: Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer

Book Review: Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer

By the title alone, I knew that Smart Girls Get What They Want, hereafter referred to as Smart Girls, because I can’t be bothered, would be a great book for me. I was the uber nerdy girl in high school, and I’m proud of that, to an extent. But I do wish that us smart girls would get some more credit. Studying isn’t all we do. Right away, what I love about Smart Girls, is the main character, Gigi. Obviously, I could relate to her in a big way. But I really loved her narrations and the sarcastic humor and snark that shines through. Honestly, […]

Monthly Wrap-Up: December 2013

Monthly Wrap-Up: December 2013

December 2013: the holiday season! We’re finally at the end of the year. As could probably be expected, I read a bit less because of the holidays, but I still did quite well, for me, and I managed to get quite a few posts up as well in spite of the pre-holiday busy rush at work. I read 6 books and posted 11 reviews and 9 other posts. December Reads Books Read: Cress by Marissa Meyer The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente The Promise of Amazing by Robin Constantine Looking for Alaska by John Green […]
