Top Reason I Love Being A Blogger/Reader

Top Reason I Love Being A Blogger/Reader

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I’ve taken the ten out of the title, because there’s one big major reason why I love being a blogger and a reader — and that is the group of friends that I’ve made this way. Let me start by saying that, yes, internet friendships are difficult to judge. You’re obviously not talking to the person, tone is lost, and it takes a lot of trust to get close to them. Sometimes you make mistakes. You think you’re close to someone and then you apparently overstep […]

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

The Winner’s Curse is easily the most hyped up 2014 release so far, and it’s not hard to see why. Indeed this book is fantastic, and it will appeal to pretty much every young adult reader out there. Although I feel like the hype did raise my expectations too high, and it was impossible for the book to live up to that perfectly, I definitely loved this book. The Winner’s Curse comes out swinging, with a fantastic main character. Kestrel is extremely intelligent. Though she isn’t that powerful physically, her gift is her mind, which she uses to analyze the people around her and strategize […]

How To Keep Track of Series

How To Keep Track of Series

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for another How To! I put on my spreadsheet-making pants again this week to tackle something I desperately needed an organized system for: book series. I mean, I know right? So many series in the YA world, and it’s so easy to forget about them or just NEVER FINISH THEM AT ALL. WELL. I have the spreadsheet for you! Now, before this spreadsheet, I used some Goodreads shelves to keep track of this: series starter, series following, series dropped lost interest, and series completed. It worked for the most part, but it did get harder and harder to keep […]

Book Review: Jenna & Jonah’s Fauxmance by Emily Franklin and Brendan Halpin

Book Review: Jenna & Jonah’s Fauxmance by Emily Franklin and Brendan Halpin

As a full disclosure, I picked up this tiny little book at Boekenfestijn, for around €2 or so. It’s not exactly like I had high hopes or something. I thought it would be a light, fluffy contemporary, probably of the guilty pleasure variety. I mean, teen celebrities who have an on-screen and off-screen romance but secretly hate each other? Sign me up! In the end though, it really wasn’t all that. What was I hoping for from this book? Banter, obviously. Barely contained resentment as the two main characters try to pull off their fauxmance. Some romantic kisses that make them doubt themselves. A gradual […]

Book Nerd Problems #18: The DNF, or When Do You Give Up?

Book Nerd Problems #18: The DNF, or When Do You Give Up?

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #18. The DNF, or When Do You Give Up? Today I want to talk a bit about something that I have a lot of trouble with. That would be the DNF – or the ‘did not finish’. I cannot bring myself to DNF often. It’s something that on the one hand I’m quite proud of, but on the other hand, I know it’s causing me to push through some books that I really dislike, thereby causing me pain. I have a lot of rambly thoughts […]

Top Ten Books That Will Make You Swoon

Top Ten Books That Will Make You Swoon

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. Looking up books for this list, I realize that most romances that I love are more of the awwwwwww and flail-worthy types than swoooooon-y types. There is a difference, okay? Swoonful romances I interpret as less “cutesy” and more sexy and irresistible. So. There’s that. Semantics but whatever. I clearly just needed some justification for not putting Adorkable on this list. 1. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller Prepare to see this book on a looooot of TTTs from now on. But oh my […]

Book Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Book Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

WARNING: This review contains spoilers. I’ve hidden the big ones. Proceed at your own risk. I think The 5th Wave was the most hyped up non-sequel book of 2013. In my opinion, at least, it definitely was. (Well there’s These Broken Stars too, but I think The 5th Wave was bigger.) As I am writing this, my friend average on Goodreads is 4.04. I… how… I… no. The hype train can kindly go fuck itself and get the hell out of my life forever and always. As you may have noticed by now, and by my rating, I am not a fan. And it wasn’t […]
