There is a difference, okay? Swoonful romances I interpret as less “cutesy” and more sexy and irresistible. So. There’s that. Semantics but whatever. I clearly just needed some justification for not putting Adorkable on this list.
1. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
Prepare to see this book on a looooot of TTTs from now on. But oh my god this romance. That chapter, in the middle, you know which one I’m talking about. I melted. MELTED. And then flailed a little. And wanted to cry. I’m pretty sure that meets the definition of swoon. I would like one Will Fletcher to go, please.
2. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
CHAOL AND CELAENA. YOU GUYZZZZ. You killed me with your flawless perfection and sexiness in this book. I cannot deny it, I do not want to deny it, I ship it like FedEx and it is perfect.
3. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
Paige and Warden. You two. It barely even happened but it was there. It was slow-burn and awesome. That scene. That scene. The chemistry dripped off the page, and I just had to fan myself. That was amazing.
4. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like this series as much if I reread it today – in fact, I still need to read Origin, but come on guys. There was some serious hot action going on. Man, that romance, their dynamic, it’s like a drug to me.
5. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
Everyone thinks I’m crazy for it, but I shipped Ignifex and Nyx from their very first encounter. Ignifex is total bad news but I saw through his evil image and I saw pure. sex. *cough* well, maybe not, but he’s sexy and handsome and dark and I love it.
6. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Chapter 62, guys. I mean. I mean. Come on. I’m not even really on either team in this series at this point (Team Kenji ftw) but I did some major swooning for chapter 62. (ETA: I wrote this post a week ago, before reading Ignite Me, soooo umm I would include that book too. Chapter 55 and 58. Right.)
7. Pivot Point by Kasie West
Not as massive a swoon as the others on the list, but Trevor is one of my top book boyfriends ever because he’ll do anything for Addie and it’s so fucking beautiful, I can’t even. Too many feels. Too many of them.
8. Shut Out by Kody Keplinger
Though this is my least favorite Keplinger book (note: I still gave it 4 stars, so that doesn’t say much) it was definitely my favorite romance from her. Guys. Guys. Hot scenes in a library. So. Yeah. There’s that.
9. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This is like borderline swoon-cute, but awwwww I definitely shipped Cath and Levi. He was just so sweet and supportive and adorable, so yeah, I’m counting it as swoonful. I’m totally making swoonful a word, guys. I don’t even care.
10. Angelfall/World After by Susan Ee
Raffe and Penryn man. Talk about your slow burn hate-to-love and totally amazing romance. I had to put them on the list, and now I desperately want to reread Angelfall. For a book that’s totally not focused on romance, I have a shit-ton of shippy feels.
