Looking up books for this list, I realize that most romances that I love are more of the awwwwwww and flail-worthy types than swoooooon-y types. There is a difference, okay? Swoonful romances I interpret as less “cutesy” and more sexy and irresistible. So. There’s that. Semantics but whatever. I clearly just needed some justification for not putting Adorkable on this list.

A Mad, Wicked Folly Crown of Midnight The Bone Season

1. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
Prepare to see this book on a looooot of TTTs from now on. But oh my god this romance. That chapter, in the middle, you know which one I’m talking about. I melted. MELTED. And then flailed a little. And wanted to cry. I’m pretty sure that meets the definition of swoon. I would like one Will Fletcher to go, please.

2. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
CHAOL AND CELAENA. YOU GUYZZZZ. You killed me with your flawless perfection and sexiness in this book. I cannot deny it, I do not want to deny it, I ship it like FedEx and it is perfect.

3. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
Paige and Warden. You two. It barely even happened but it was there. It was slow-burn and awesome. That scene. That scene. The chemistry dripped off the page, and I just had to fan myself. That was amazing.

Obsidian_cover1600 Cruel Beauty unravel-me

4. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like this series as much if I reread it today – in fact, I still need to read Origin, but come on guys. There was some serious hot action going on. Man, that romance, their dynamic, it’s like a drug to me.

5. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
Everyone thinks I’m crazy for it, but I shipped Ignifex and Nyx from their very first encounter. Ignifex is total bad news but I saw through his evil image and I saw pure. sex. *cough* well, maybe not, but he’s sexy and handsome and dark and I love it.

6. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Chapter 62, guys. I mean. I mean. Come on. I’m not even really on either team in this series at this point (Team Kenji ftw) but I did some major swooning for chapter 62. (ETA: I wrote this post a week ago, before reading Ignite Me, soooo umm I would include that book too. Chapter 55 and 58. Right.)

Pivot Point (2) Shut Out Fangirl angelfall

7. Pivot Point by Kasie West
Not as massive a swoon as the others on the list, but Trevor is one of my top book boyfriends ever because he’ll do anything for Addie and it’s so fucking beautiful, I can’t even. Too many feels. Too many of them.

8. Shut Out by Kody Keplinger
Though this is my least favorite Keplinger book (note: I still gave it 4 stars, so that doesn’t say much) it was definitely my favorite romance from her. Guys. Guys. Hot scenes in a library. So. Yeah. There’s that.

9. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
This is like borderline swoon-cute, but awwwww I definitely shipped Cath and Levi. He was just so sweet and supportive and adorable, so yeah, I’m counting it as swoonful. I’m totally making swoonful a word, guys. I don’t even care.

10. Angelfall/World After by Susan Ee
Raffe and Penryn man. Talk about your slow burn hate-to-love and totally amazing romance. I had to put them on the list, and now I desperately want to reread Angelfall. For a book that’s totally not focused on romance, I have a shit-ton of shippy feels.

That’s it! What do you think of my list?

  1. Love your list! I’ve got Fangirl and Lux on mine as well. Katy and Daemon’s relationship is one of my very favorites – smoking hot and totally in sync.
I love me some Raffe and Penryn. So worried about them.
Reading Pivot Point today, fingers crossed!

  2. I tend to go for the “aww” and FLAIL! relationships too.
I don’t think your crazy for shipping Ignifex & Nyx right away! I did too, pretty much! SWOON.
Addie and Trevor make me smile so much. I think I find Trevor swoon-worthy because he’s mostly a NORMAL guy you would actually potentially meet in a school who tends to be nice and cute. I love other bookish relationships too, but in fantasy or science fiction the swoony characters might be captains or pilots or whatever you would probably not actually meet in real life.
Levi in Fangirl is perfect too. Him & Cath=PERFECTION.

    • Hahaha, cutesy romance is the BEST. In which case I hope you’ve read Meant To Be because it is the total cutest. 😀

GOOD. I’M NOT CRAZY. IGNIFEX IS THE SEX. SRSLY.

I know just what you mean!! Trevor is like the realisitic book boyfriend. I wants him. ugh. *gushes*

  3. Ah Chaol and Cealena (I still haven’t learned how to spell her name) <333

I'm odd as a fan of them as two of their biggest moments made me laugh more than swoon.

BUT in general they are the swooniest of swoony things. So much cute, so much tension, so much ANGST.

    Yummy.

  4. I am encouraged to see Bone Season on here, because you know my feelings about ships and swoons, which is that they are maybe more important to me than they “should” be, but OMG THEY ARE THE BEST AND I NEED THEM AND I REGRET NOTHING.

You know I swooned in all of the ones I’ve read from this list, except Angelfall, but that was a nice foundation for possible future swoons and I haven’t read World After yet. So.

Oh, also, though I sometimes can’t with Mafi’s prose, I WANT THOSE SWOONS. I am reading the series for those swoons. I’m also really excited for whatever she does next, because it’s a stylistic thing for Juliette, and I think she could do something more Christina-y. 😀

    • OMGGG Christina. I srsly need you to read The Bone Season at some point if only for you to get to the swoons. I think you will swoon. I hope you will swoon. God I like the word swoon.

*dances* Angelfall wasn’t heavy swoons but omg I seriously ship that so hard. I hope it gets hotttttter as the series progresses.

      🙂

  5. I’ve seen A Mad, Wicked Folly on several lists today and I’ve heard the title thrown around recently, but I don’t know much about it. Now I MUST know about it! Same with Pivot Point– see it on lots of lists.. I have both the first and second books on my shelf, but haven’t read them! I had no idea it was a swoony series! And YES… Angelfall <3 I love Raffe and Penryn. I haven't read World After yet, but this definitely put me in the mood!
