Music Match-Up #5: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Every once in a while, I come across a song that fits perfectly with a book I’ve read. In this new feature, I’ll tell you about them!

The Books

Okay, so I think it’s clear that I have massive amounts of love for the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Though it’s a series that has some serious flaws that can have some readers running away screaming, it’s a series that is extremely dear to my heart. I just love the narrative voice and how that grows and develops across the three books as the main character, Juliette, grows. It’s a series that just captures my heart and exploits all my feelings. And it’s actually one of the first YA series I read – right after The Hunger Games. Now that it concluded this year, I am already missing it — though I’m really excited for Tahereh’s next projects. The Song

But today I want to gush about this awesome song I discovered that fits perfectly with the Shatter Me series. I mean, okay, for one there’s the title. Duh. But it’s much more than that for me. It’s the embellished lyrics, the unique and chaotic sound that echoes Juliette’s narrative voice, and the stunning visuals in the music video. Seriously, I feel like this so echoes Juliette’s journey across the series – first being so fragile and locked up, but later learning to break free and take control of her own life. She calls for someone to save her, but ends up saving herself. So sit back and enjoy Lindsey Stirling’s Shatter Me. This artist is now firmly on my radar, and I have been listening to her on repeat.

Somebody shine a light
I’m frozen by the fear in me
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me
So cut me from the line
Dizzy, spinning endlessly
Somebody make me feel alive
And shatter me!

    • Right?!? It’s such a perfect match, I almost suspect Lindsey read the book and based it on it xD it’s just so amazing. 🙂
