Book Review: The Swift Boys & Me by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: The Swift Boys & Me by Kody Keplinger

If you know me, you’ll know that one author I will always shout about, no matter what, is Kody Keplinger. Her young adult novels just have a way of being really emotional for me, and her refreshing voice perfectly conveys messages that I find to be extremely important to teenagers. Each of her books has really touched my heart in different ways, so when I heard that she was bringing out a middle grade novel, I was all for it. It’s different, to be sure, but again Keplinger brought that prickly sensation to my eyes. With the backdrop of summer vacation, The Swift Boys & […]

Book Review: The Diviners by Libba Bray

Book Review: The Diviners by Libba Bray

The Diviners is one of those books that has been on my TBR list and my bookshelf for AGES, but I just never got around to. And, I mean, really, who can blame me – it’s almost 600 freaking pages. So this is when book club comes in to save the day! Book Club: The Way to Get Debby to Read Chunky Books™. Though I needed that extra push, I’m so glad I finally did it – finally read this wonderfully creepy book, which happens to be my first (and certainly not my last) encounter with Libba Bray. What immediately struck me upon reading The […]

Book Nerd Problems #23: CLIFFHANGERS

Book Nerd Problems #23: CLIFFHANGERS

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #23. CLIFFHANGERS I’m actually surprised I hadn’t covered this topic already, because it seems like a rather obvious one. But I dunno about you guys – lately, I’ve been hit over the head with terrible cliffhanger after terrible cliffhanger. Now, I’m not saying that ALL cliffhangers are awful. Indeed, it’s a technique that can be well done and have me on the edge of my seat, salivating for the next book in a series. BUT, they are not all like that. In fact, I would […]

ARC Book Review: The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Biren

ARC Book Review: The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Biren

The Vault of Dreamers instantly intrigued me with its premise, which basically promised me some mix of Big Brother and Inception. The result is a really intriguing thriller with some awesome science fiction aspects. However, with a confusing romance and cut-off ending putting me on the hook for a series, it wasn’t quite the total package. The premise is indeed what got me hooked, and from page one I was completely absorbed by this book. Rosie is a student at the Forge School, a private boarding school for students of the creative arts which doubles as a national reality television show. However, there’s something odd […]

Top Ten Books I Really Want To Read But Don’t Own Yet

Top Ten Books I Really Want To Read But Don’t Own Yet

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I’ve tried to make there be no overlap between this week’s list and last week’s list – because obviously I talked about books I am being forced to read, want to read, and don’t own yet. But so this list contains some of the less hyped ones. I probably would have bought a fair amount of these already were it not for my birthday last week and the inevitable book buying ban that comes with it. Sad sigh. SOOOOOOOOON I will go on a book buying […]

ARC Book Review: The Jewel by Amy Ewing

ARC Book Review: The Jewel by Amy Ewing

The Jewel was one of those typical cases for me where I can scream, “THE COVER MADE ME DO IT!” Seriously, much shiny, very want. But I knew before I got into this that it most likely would not end up going very well for me – for one thing, the book is blurbed in comparison to The Selection, and we generally know about the quality of that series. In the end, though, The Jewel had both moments where it surprisingly impressed me and moments where it was worse than I expected. First of all, I gotta hand it to the author, because for a […]

Book Review: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Book Review: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

The Archived is one of those books that has just consistently been raved about since it came out. It was also one of those books that I had oddly written off – I didn’t think it would be something for me because, like, ghosts? Really? WELL DON’T I LOOK STUPID NOW. The ever fabulous Gaby forced me to read this and I’m so glad she did. It’s one of those times that reading out of your comfort zone totally pays off. This has none of the paranormal romance elements/drama that I feared and instead brought an exciting, creative, and entertaining story that I thoroughly loved. […]
