Is It Okay To Change Your Ratings Over Time?

Is It Okay To Change Your Ratings Over Time?

Since I recently went through all my old reviews to update their formatting and add them to my review archive, I couldn’t help but notice that some of my ratings were a little… strange. Mostly, they were inflated. And I might have adjusted some of them where I saw fit, because I couldn’t help but feel like those books… deserved it. Some may consider this a faux pas. I mean, these thoughts were legitimate and honest at some point in time. I never lie in my reviews. I usually write my review RIGHT after finishing the book, so we can’t say that I wasn’t expressing […]

ARC Book Review: Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper

ARC Book Review: Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper

As with any negative review, particularly of a debut author, this is somewhat painful to write. I picked up Salt & Storm hoping for interesting magic adventures with stunning world building and the possibility of a nice romance. And I’m left extremely disappointed on all counts. So much so that at a mere quarter of the book, I was extremely close to leaving it unfinished (and we know how bad I am at DNFing). I pushed through anyway but… that didn’t change my opinion. My primary complaint about Salt & Storm sadly comes down to the writing. It didn’t work for me at all. It […]

The Keys To My Heart #7: Parallel Universes

The Keys To My Heart #7: Parallel Universes

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the bookish things that steal my heart. #7. Parallel Universes If you’ve been around the blog and have read my Top Ten Tuesday posts, you’ve probably noticed a trend among some of my favorite books. I am in love with the concept of parallel universes. It instantly puts books on my radar and more often than not, I absolutely love them. What I define as a parallel universe story: basically, the main character goes through two different timelines or exists in two (or more) worlds that are very similar, but differ in some way. For example: […]

Audiobook Review: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Audiobook Review: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Deep breaths, Debby. Just.. deep breaths. Before I launch into what is sure to be a rant about all the different ways I dislike this train wreck of a book and series and how undeserving I believe it is of the hype it gets, let me be upfront with you guys. I did not have high expectations for this book. I practically had no expectations, to be honest. After I was thoroughly disillusioned by Insurgent, I knew that more likely than not, Allegiant would be just as bad, if not worse, for me to read. That would be why I put it off for 10 […]

Top Ten Underrated Books I’ve Read

Top Ten Underrated Books I’ve Read

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I decided not to choose a specific genre for this post because, well, I just don’t read enough books – much less the underrated ones. Soooo deal with it. Here are ten books I’ve loved that I think deserve way more praise and lovin’ than they’re getting. 1. Adorkable by Sarra Manning I’m like a one-woman fangirl army for this book, so yeah. More love. MORE LOVE. 2. Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill I know this book does get a lot of love in some […]

ARC Book Review: Jackaby by William Ritter

ARC Book Review: Jackaby by William Ritter

I start this review with a very heavy heart. No one is more upset than I am about this dismal rating. Though I would never say this book is bad or the worst, I had fully expected to absolutely adore it and be head over heels for it. I’m immensely disappointed, because this book was just average at best and a cheap knockoff at worst. To be fair: Jackaby is upfront about what it is – Sherlock meets Doctor Who. That blurb is what caught my attention and the reason why I picked it up, because as my friends probably know, I am a HUGE […]

ARC Book Review: Blonde Ops by Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman

ARC Book Review: Blonde Ops by Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman

Oh dear. Blonde Ops… where did we go wrong? To be fair, I didn’t have EXTREMELY high hopes for this as being like some kind of mindblowingly awesome adventure story, but I hoped for some fun, some intrigue, hopefully some lovely wanderlust-evoking passages about Rome, and maybe a cute romance. Sadly, I didn’t really get any of those things. First off, the main character is bland as fuck. I can’t get a grip on her personality, because one minute she’s cool and defiant, but the next she just does the stupidest shit ever. I guess reckless is the right word – but she doesn’t have […]

Book Nerd Problems #24: I Am A Book Buying Addict

Book Nerd Problems #24: I Am A Book Buying Addict

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #24. I Am A Book Buying Addict Guys. I dunno if you know. And I dunno if maybe my book hauls of 10-17 books per month tipped you off. But I kind of have a bit of a book buying problem. I’m sure most of you can relate to this though. I mean, I’ll see you all at Book Buyers Anonymous next Tuesday, right? *cough* But joking aside, it really does seem like an addiction. I go through sort of withdrawal symptoms if I haven’t […]
