Top Ten New Series I Want To Start

Top Ten New Series I Want To Start

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I actually thought this list was pretty hard! Looking back, most of the series in the past TWO years that I’ve been really interested in, I’ve started. Most of the series I’m hoping to catch up on soon are older than that. But oh well, I still found 10 series that I’m super excited to get started on, and hopefully I can start catching up on them soon! 1. The Maids of Honor series by Jennifer McGowan I just came across this series recently, and I’m […]

ARC Book Review: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

ARC Book Review: Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Ahh, the book with the too-pretty cover. And it is pretty. Pretty pretty. I find it very hard to look past books with covers like that. But, okay, I need to review more than that. Snow Like Ashes is an entertaining start to what will likely be a fantastic fantasy series. Though I have some reservations, I liked it quite a bit. Snow Like Ashes takes place in Primoria, a fantasy world with 8 different kingdoms, governed by magic. Meira, our main character, is one of the last free citizens of Winter, a kingdom that was taken over by Spring 16 years ago. Together with […]

Book Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

Book Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

My heart hurts right now. Though less cheery and bantery than Catching Jordan, Stealing Parker hit me right in the feels and was so meaningful… I need to just take a moment. *breathes out* Phew. I’m okay. I didn’t know what to expect at all, going into this book. I hadn’t read the premise, since I got it for my birthday from Christina and was resolved to read all the Miranda Kenneally books in existence anyway. The two others that I’d read, Catching Jordan and Breathe, Annie, Breathe were much more romance-centric than Stealing Parker, I think. Stealing Parker was more about character growth to […]

On to the Next Adventure!

On to the Next Adventure!

Calm yo tits, I’m not quitting blogging. But, if you don’t follow me on Twitter, you may have missed the news! I FOUND A JOB!!! Yes, starting this Monday, it’s back to work for me! I’m starting as a Marketing Assistant at a retailer, working on packaging development. I’m super excited, because it’s something that I did before (a bit) at my internship, and it’s a nice way to be creative, exploit all my marketing insights and knowledge, and put my perfectionism and eye for detail to good use. No, I’m not working in publishing, which is still the dream for me, but I figured […]

ARC Book Review: Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future

ARC Book Review: Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future

A.S. King is one of those BIG NAME YA authors who everyone seems to love, so when I got the opportunity to pick up a copy of Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future at BEA, you bet your ass I was excited. I hadn’t read anything by her before – but I definitely wanted to – and with the future/timey-wimey aspect, I thought this was almost sure to be a hit. But this book was WEIRD, guys. I just. I don’t even know. I will say that what immediately struck me is that King’s writing is definitely beautiful. The more I read YA, the more […]

One Year of Book Club!

One Year of Book Club!

It’s somewhat hard for me to imagine, but roughly one year ago, I decided to take my book nerdiness to the next level. I’d come to know and meet quite a few YA book bloggers here in the Netherlands, and as you all know: bookish people are the best people. I reached out to them nervously, wondering if they would want to start a book club, and in no time we were regularly meeting, once a month, to discuss books and blogging and plenty of stuff outside those spheres. Though we started out as seven, we were quickly whittled down to 4 members, but I’m […]

ARC Book Review: The Fire Artist by Daisy Whitney

ARC Book Review: The Fire Artist by Daisy Whitney

Oh boy. When I heard that The Fire Artist would be at BEA, I wasn’t entirely sure I should pick it up. I hadn’t heard the best things about Daisy Whitney, but I have this thing with elemental magic that I find very hard to turn down. So when I coincidentally ended up at the Bloomsbury booth during the galley drop, I was like “YES.” *sigh* Ultimately, I should have listened to my instincts because this… this just wasn’t very good. The Fire Artist tells the story of Aria, a – you guessed it – fire artist, who lives in an alternate version of our […]

Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I’m not gonna lie, this is a pretty tough topic for me. A lot of the real locations in books that I’ve read that are the most majestic, I’ve already been to. (Think Paris, London, New York…) And a lot of the fictional worlds, fantasy/sci-fi, are so caught up in wars, rebellions, or scary monsters that I don’t necessarily want to be there. Yes, once again, I’m taking a topic way too literally, but whatever, this is how I roll. Cue a pretty clichéd list. Real […]
