Top Ten Goals/Resolutions for 2015

Top Ten Goals/Resolutions for 2015

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I actually really enjoyed making these for 2014 – and I actually did really well too! Except for reading more adult books, reformatting ALL blog posts (though I got all the reviews done), and finding a co-blogger, I pretty much finished the list! Let’s hope I can do this again with my list for 2015! 1. Collaborate with authors. In the past year, I’ve been blessed enough to actually interact with a bunch more authors than ever before, and every time I’m like, “I should totally […]

ARC Book Review: The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

ARC Book Review: The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

I don’t typically read a lot of paranormal books, so I had never yet experienced Holly Black – a pretty big name author in YA. The opportunity to read The Darkest Part of the Forest came about thanks to BEA, and faeries are probably the paranormal creatures I’m most likely to like, so I was really excited to try it out. The result? Well it’s a creative story and world for sure, but it lacked a kind of emotional resonance with me. Hazel and Ben live in a town bordering a forest inhabited by faeries. Faeries are just as pesky and terrifying as all the […]

Book Review: The Resurrectionist by E.B. Hudspeth

Book Review: The Resurrectionist by E.B. Hudspeth

When I was offered The Resurrectionist for review, I’d never heard of it before. However, the concept sounded endlessly intriguing: an anatomist who theorizes that mythical creatures did in fact exist and that human deformities occur because it’s the species trying to get back to its original form. Sounds super cool, right? Add in a ton of beautiful illustrations, and I was sold. Quirk Books even made this awesome book trailer for it that basically made me reply straight away that YES I wanted this book in my life. How did it pan out? Well, as you can probably tell by my rating, it wasn’t […]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it today, and happy holidays if you do not! I hope you can enjoy the holiday season, because it’s probably my favorite time of the year. Ever since we started celebrating Christmas, after moving to the US in 1999, it’s been something I always look forward to – not just because of presents (though, ngl, those are always pretty great) but because I love the festive spirit and everything just seems brighter, lighter, happier around that time of year. Last year I shared some of my family’s traditions and my favorite things about the holiday, and this year […]

ARC Book Review: The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark

ARC Book Review: The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark

Two things I love? Figure skating and best friend romances. So, obviously, when I heard about The Boy Next Door, it immediately went on my, “OH MY GOSH CAN I HAVE THIS NOW PLZ I AM READY FOR THE CUTE” list. *cough* Yeah, that’s a list that may or may not really exist. ANYWAY. Cute and romantic, sure, but this book ended up having a bit too much drama for my taste. This story is told from the alternating perspectives of Maddy and Gabe, two figure skating partners and next door neighbors who have been close all their lives. From just the first couple chapters, […]

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me (2014)

Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me (2014)

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE. And to tell you the truth, I had real difficulty putting this list together because I’ve been on a book buying ban for so long. I’ve actively been resisting thinking about which books I’d buy if I had the chance. WHO SERIOUSLY KNOWS what I’m actually getting for Christmas, because my wishlist is extensive, but oh well. Books books books = always fun! 1. Maid of Secrets by Jennifer McGowan: Moar historical fiction with swoons and political intrigue plz!! 2. Every Breath […]

Book Review: The Unbound by Victoria Schwab

Book Review: The Unbound by Victoria Schwab

I loved The Archived when I first read it back in May, but then I put off buying The Unbound for forever – for some reason. LUCKILY, Gillian is a very very lovely bookish friend, and her giving this to me finally gave me the push I needed to read this most excellent sequel. All I can say is, “DEBBY, WHY THE HELL DID YOU WAIT SO LONG, YOU DOOFUS?!?!??!” From page 1, I was instantly smitten with how lovely every aspect of this series is. But let’s be honest, at the top of the list has to be THAT FREAKING SHIP. Wesley and Mac […]

It’s been a RIDICULOUS week…

It’s been a RIDICULOUS week…

Time for something completely different, completely non-book related. I’m just sitting down and chatting with you guys because WOAH what a week of high highs and low lows and just… Everything started on Tuesday, when during my morning commute someone jumped in front of my train. I knew this happened all the time, sadly, but I could never have imagined how hearing that crash and feeling those bumps would affect me as a passenger. I was completely shaken up. The whole day I felt out of sorts, and I couldn’t stop thinking about that morning – how horrible it must be that that seemed like […]
