Book Review: The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Book Review: The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

It’s here. The end of an era. The end of Percy Jackson. NO NO, DON’T CRY, DEBBY. Breathe. In many ways, this was a nice conclusion to the Heroes of Olympus series, but in other ways, I couldn’t help but be frustratingly disappointed. So this review will be a long one. You’ve been warned. The Blood of Olympus is the climax of the five-book long plot, so obviously, this is where the action really picks up and those mysterious twists are finally revealed. In classic Rick Riordan fashion, it’s complimented with humor, excellent world building, and awesome, quirky secondary characters. Primarily in this one, Nike, […]

Sometimes I watch the movie/TV show first

Sometimes I watch the movie/TV show first

Among us hardcore readers, I know there is a bit of a stigma against people who watch the movie or TV show first. Well, I’m gonna just say it: sometimes I do. And I don’t feel like there’s anything wrong with that – and I wish the judgment would stop. Why watch first?! I’ve confessed before that I wasn’t a big reader growing up. Reading was just difficult for me. I got bored and distracted really easily. Even now that I do read more, classics and adult books can be really hard for me to get into – and so, watching a movie or TV […]

Top Ten Books I Read In 2014

Top Ten Books I Read In 2014

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. Here it is, probably one of the most dreaded topics of the year, because now we have to make some srs choices. Instinct screams, “JE REFUSE!” But, I don’t actually feel too bad, because I’ve been keeping up with my book rankings for the year in my yearbook spreadsheet – so I haven’t forgotten about all of the AMAZING books at the beginning of the year. In fact, despite having read over 120 books this year so far, I’m pretty happy with the top 10 that […]

ARC Book Review: Love and Other Theories by Alexis Bass

ARC Book Review: Love and Other Theories by Alexis Bass

*sigh* I knew that I was taking a risk in picking up Love and Other Theories. See, it sounded like it could be AWFUL, but it could also be the exact kind of banterfluff I love. Because, I mean, what’s more banterfluffy than a main character who stubbornly refuses to get into a real relationship? I mean, sex positivity and independence YES, but then to make it bantery and cute, an amazing guy could come in and convince her to take the plunge and it could be ALL OF THE ADORBS. Well. It was not. It was absolutely not. The thing that immediately got to […]

Book Haul #17: In Which I Couldn’t Resist the Review Copies

Book Haul #17: In Which I Couldn’t Resist the Review Copies

Wow, so remember how I was going to get rid of review copies and give myself the freedom to free read all the time, basically? Yeah. I failed. I went a little obsessive with the request button and, for a change, I mostly got approved for them. OH BOY. But seriously, I’m very excited about all of these! Won Thanks to Quirk Books! Stuff Every College Student Should Know by Blair Thornburgh (signed!) Thanks to Paula Stokes! Liars, Inc. by Paula Stokes (signed!) Thanks to Dahlia Adler! Ship-Defining Quotes – a.k.a. ASDFJKL; MY FEELS

Ship-Defining Quotes – a.k.a. ASDFJKL; MY FEELS

Shipping. Such a wonderful thing. Such a huge hobby of mine. Of course, there are a lot of different types of ships, which I’m planning on writing another discussion post about sometime soon, but today I wanted to focus on one shipping-aspect: when the whole of the ship can be defined by one quote. And any time you hear that quote, you melt. You are one big puddle of feels and you just can’t help it, but whatever, it’s worth it. This phenomenon happens when a spectacularly beautiful ship is complimented by beautiful writing and feeltastic plot moments. So it doesn’t happen ALL the time, […]

ARC Book Review: When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill

ARC Book Review: When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill

One of my favorite author discoveries in 2014 has to be Liz Czukas – I loved Ask Again Later and Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless – so when she announced a new adult book under a pen name, it was pretty much at the TOP of my wishlist. When Joss Met Matt is banterfluffy perfection, with plenty of swoony sexiness, which all made for the best refreshingly addictive read. So When Joss Met Matt is the quintessential friends-with-benefits romance. Joss and Matt meet in college, and after Joss gets dumped by her loser boyfriend, they come up with the idea of sorbet sex. Their theory […]

‘Tis the Season for Bookish Giveaways!

‘Tis the Season for Bookish Giveaways!

Hello my lovelies! As you can probably tell by the title, today it’s officially GIVEAWAY TIME! I don’t do a lot of giveaways here on Snuggly Oranges, particularly not this year, primarily because of financial reasons. HOWEVER, I have a job and some income now, and it’s time to pay you all back for the wonderful support I’ve had for the more than two years that this blog has been up and running. Now it’s not the most glamorous giveaway ever, but they’re books and books are fun and if only one person enters to win, I’ll still be happy to know they’re going to […]
