This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here.

Here it is, probably one of the most dreaded topics of the year, because now we have to make some srs choices. Instinct screams, “JE REFUSE!” But, I don’t actually feel too bad, because I’ve been keeping up with my book rankings for the year in my yearbook spreadsheet – so I haven’t forgotten about all of the AMAZING books at the beginning of the year. In fact, despite having read over 120 books this year so far, I’m pretty happy with the top 10 that has come out of this. Now, all of these were 5 orange reads for me, so I just CANNOT recommend them enough. Go. Read. All of them. Right now.

A Mad, Wicked Folly Cruel Beauty The Falconer

1. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
I pretty much read this right at the beginning of the year, after its release, but it’s stayed with me because of it’s glorious writing, achingly beautiful romance, and that excellent feminist storyline. I think I’ll be rereading it in 2015. And I need more from this author for sure.

2. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
An amazing blend of Greek mythology and the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale… Also one of my first reads of the year, but again, one that I just cannot forget. Ah-ma-zing. THAT SHIP. THAT TWIST. ALL THAT WORLD BUILDING. Ugh, now I want to reread this one as well.

3. The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Steampunk awesomeness with a kick ass debutante fae killer? HELL YES. It was epic from start to finish, and also KIARANNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Hook's Revenge Stealing Parker Isla and the Happily Ever After

4. Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz
Look! Middle grade! Variety! But seriously, this book is a delight from start to finish for ALL ages. The sarcastic narrator is pitch perfect and the main character is so delightfully quirky and strong. ALSO I SHIP IT LIKE BURNING.

5. Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally
I devoured ALL of Miranda Kenneally’s books this year, but by far Stealing Parker got to me the hardest. Seriously, I pretty much cried. I just related to Parker so much and her story tore up my heart. The. Freaking. Feels.

6. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
FLUFFY PERFECTION AND THEN ACHING PAIN BUT SO BEAUTIFUL ALL AROUND AND ASDFJKL; I’m so glad this was our book club pick, because otherwise I would have put it off much longer because of the hype. Well, it is worth that freaking hype, goddammit. If you haven’t read this, and you like romance AT ALL, you NEED to.

The Mime Order Untitled-2 The Unbound On the Fence

7. The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon (review to come)
I’m turning into a mega-fangirl for this series and I can’t even help it at all. It was even more amazing than the first book, and I can’t WAIT to share my thoughts with you guys, but just take my word for it for now. Read The Bone Season. Pre-order The Mime Order. You want it.

8. When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill
Another 2015 book, but I seriously couldn’t help but read this early. Liz Czukas’s new adult debut is FEELSY and FLUFFY and BANTERFUL and FANTASTIC. I’m seriously buying everything this woman puts out because SO. GOOD.

9. The Unbound by Victoria Schwab (review to come)
I just read this last week, but HELL YES IT MAKES THE LIST. I was a feels puddle from start to finish. I spent so much of my time reading it with an ear-to-ear grin. But not only was the ship fantastic, the plot was so mysterious and intriguing and asdfjkl; I never wanted to stop reading. And don’t even dare utter, “Leave the window open,” to me.

10. On the Fence by Kasie West
No best-of list would be complete without Kasie West, who is seriously one of my favorite authors ever. On the Fence was the best ever best friend romance and I melted about a million times reading that book. Fluffy romantic perfection.

Runners Up!

(What? This isn’t cheating! *cough* Shut up.)

Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet Boomerang-pb-c Split Second Emma heir of fire Faking It MAGNOLIA Catching Jordan The Art of Lainey Ask Again Later

That’s my list! How many of these have you read?

  1. I have had A Mad, Wicked Folly sitting on my shelves for too long. Everyone I know loves it. I must read it soon.

YAY THE FALCONER. Love it so much.

Hook’s Revenge and Isla both made my list as well. Favorites forever. The Unbound almost did but I told myself I was only allowed one V. Schwab book so I picked Vicious.

So excited for The Mime Order and When Joss Met Matt.

TOTALLY NOT CHEATING. Lainey, Emma, Heir of Fire and Magnolia are all amazing. I must read all the others.

  2. Literally, I have read them all except for three in a row. I was doing so WELL. Also, you have most excellent taste, even if Stealing Parker will always be my least favorite Kenneally. Or maybe it won’t. Who knows. Things can change on rereads.

I only hope I will agree with you on the Samantha Shannon books and obviously I will love WJMM, right?!

    • ;__________; SPEAK NOT OF YOUR NON-EXISTENT STEALING PARKER FEELS.

You are poised to read The Mime Order and The Unbound now. I guess I can stare you down some more. AND DUH YOU WILL LOVE WJMM CAN YOU GET AROUND TO IT ALREADY?!?!?

    • Stealing Parker gives me all the feels, dude! I’m so sad that some people (*cries* Christina) don’t like that one, because it hit me SO FREAKING HARD.

YOU HAVEN’T READ KASIE WEST? PLEASE REMEDY THIS IMMEDIATELY.
