Book Review: Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Book Review: Fairest by Marissa Meyer

It’s probably worth noting that I very rarely read novellas or prequels unless I am heavily invested in the series. Now, Fairest was at the top of my wishlist anyway because The Lunar Chronicles is one of my all time favorite series. This prequel novella gives me a new appreciation for Meyer’s craftsmanship in terms of her story and her characters. One of the things I love most in books – particularly in sci-fi / fantasy series – is getting a good understanding of the villain. A villain should never be evil just to be evil. There should be a reason for that – they […]

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski

Oh, oh, The Winner’s Crime. This is certainly one of the most hyped up young adult series at the moment, and yet again I find myself not necessarily the black sheep – because I do like it – but the puzzled sheep, who really doesn’t understand the raving love for this series. With a slow, slow plot of convenience, with far too much focus on a romance I don’t ship too much, The Winner’s Crime was enjoyable but suffered a bit from middle book syndrome. I think I should be upfront with my main stumbling block for this series: I’m not really invested in the […]

Blog Tour: When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill

Blog Tour: When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill

Last year I got my hands on an early copy of When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill (a.k.a. Liz Czukas) and I couldn’t help myself. I read it immediately, regardless of the MONTHS left until its release. I knew I would love it, and I absolutely did, so I’m so happy to get to be a part of the blog tour today! When Joss Met Matt stole my heart instantly with its friends-with-benefits premise. Matt and Joss definitely are great friends, and that friendship only strengthens over the years. They start the benefits side of things to cope with breakups – building on the […]

Top Ten Favorite Heroines From Books

Top Ten Favorite Heroines From Books

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I thought for this list I would have a GINORMOUS list that would be super hard to trim down, but that actually isn’t the case! I focused mostly on sci-fi and fantasy series – because then there is actual world saving going on and such – and then the most sparkling personalities I could remember. (You’ll notice that I fall for the heroines with plenty of flaws.) Here’s what I came up with! from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas Celaena is just […]

Book Review: Inspire by Cora Carmack

Book Review: Inspire by Cora Carmack

I start this review with pretty much a broken heart. Anyone who knows me has probably heard me yelling about my love for Cora Carmack. She could do no wrong in my eyes. Then… Inspire happened. Inspire was an attempt to bring us something new: new adult paranormal romance. Until now, the only new adult books have pretty much been contemporary romances, so it was exciting to hear that this would be something different. This would hopefully combine some awesome paranormal/fantasy aspects (because I am alllllll about the Greek mythology, seriously) with the hotness we’ve come to expect from new adult books and more specifically […]

#TheDUFF Red Carpet Recap with Kody Keplinger + Giveaway!

The DUFF festivities are continuing! Last week, the red carpet premiere took place in LA, and yesterday another one took place in New York! Kody Keplinger, the brilliant, fabulous, and lovely author of The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend, was lucky enough to be in attendance, and I was lucky enough to get to ask her a couple of questions about the whole experience!! (I’m not INTERNALLY FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS, nope nope nope.) How did you feel as an author fitting into the Hollywood scene? Kody: It was really nerve-wracking, I won’t lie. But luckily, the cast and crew of the film have been […]

ARC Book Review: A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas

ARC Book Review: A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas

Here’s a thing I almost forgot: how much I love Sleeping Beauty. In fact, as I read A Wicked Thing, which fits with the tone and story of the Disney movie, I realized it was probably my favorite Disney movie when I was little. My favorite Disney princess for sure. A Wicked Thing is an absolutely stunning debut that just about left me breathless. A Wicked Thing is like an alternate ending to Sleeping Beauty. In this case, Aurora wakes up 100 years later, to a kiss from a guy she’s never seen before, and she has to come to terms with how much of […]
