Top Ten Books On My Summer 2015 TBR List

Top Ten Books On My Summer 2015 TBR List

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. Time for another seasonal TBR! You know how I love these. For my spring 2015 TBR, I got really close. I’m reading The Kiss of Deception right now, and all the rest I actually did read! I’m blaming my lack of self-control on April and May ARCs for *just* not making it, but I’ll be sure to finish it off this week. Summer means less ARCs and more freedom, so there’s pretty much no reason I shouldn’t be 10 for 10 on this one. From My […]

ARC Book Review: Tangled Webs by Lee Bross

ARC Book Review: Tangled Webs by Lee Bross

The premise of Tangled Webs instantly caught my attention, as it contains so many things I usually love: London, blackmail, masquerade balls, slight genderbending. For all intents and purposes, I should have fallen hard and fast for this book. But no. And wow, it sure takes skill to make a story about blackmail so boring. Let’s start there, because I feel like more readers will be disappointed by the blackmail aspect of this novel. Arista, or Lady A, is a “notorious blackmailer”, but no – she’s actually only the messenger. She picks up secrets, sealed in envelopes, and trades them for money. She doesn’t actually […]

Book Haul #23: Short and Sweet

Book Haul #23: Short and Sweet

It’s been more than a month, so it’s time for another book haul! It’s decently short because I restrained myself immensely from buying books while I was unemployed. (So, yeah, you can probably expect a bigger haul next month.) But I only bought the books I was really excited and desperate for, so I’m very very happy with this haul, and especially with the generosity of friends and publishers 🙂 Purchased The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West: Kasie West is one of my all-time favorite auto-buy authors, so this should surprise no one. I had this pre-ordered since about February, soooo yeah. I already read […]

Book Review: The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

Book Review: The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

I really liked Open Road Summer, Emery Lord’s debut last year, though I didn’t quite fall head over heels for it because of the amount of girl hate the book contained. As such, I was a biiit skeptical about The Start of Me and You, especially as the premise also has a pretty heavy grief component, which is usually not my thing. But wow. This book blew me away. From the first page, I was in love, and I know I’ve found a new title for my all-time favorites list. The Start of Me and You tells the story of Paige, a girl in a […]

The second half of 2015 is fast approaching, which means MANY MORE AMAZING BOOKS are about to hit the shelves. Are we ready for the September-October onslaught? YEAH BUT NO BUT I DON’T KNOW. ARC Book Review: The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

ARC Book Review: The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

Last year, Rachael Allen’s debut got a pretty mixed response within the YA blogging community, but as my closest friends loved it, she definitely got on my radar. So when The Revenge Playbook popped up on Edelweiss, with the premise being female friends teaming up to take revenge on the football team, I couldn’t resist. It sounded like just the kind of summer fluff I needed in my life. And I was 100% correct. This book is absolutely excellent. The Revenge Playbook tells the story of four unlikely friends, Liv, Peyton, Melanie Jane, and Ana, who spontaneously team up against the football team. Why? The […]

Most Wanted: June 2015

Most Wanted: June 2015

April and May had crazy many amazing titles coming out, but now that it’s June, it’s slowing down. I don’t have that many highly anticipated titles coming out this month, but I suppose that just gives me time to catch up on the past couple months, so all’s well that ends well! June 9th Hello, I Love You by Katie M. Stout: K-POP ROMANCE. I really really want thisss and I hope it’s just as fluffy as I want it to be. The cover is all kinds of adorable in any case. June 16th The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen: I just read this one […]

ARC Book Review: The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker

ARC Book Review: The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker

As a true reader of my generation, I’m still tempted any time witches and witchcraft are mentioned. The Witch Hunter popped up on my radar with quite a bit of buzz, but at the end of the day, this is a debut that failed to impress. The Witch Hunter is a kind of historical fantasy. I say kind of, because it’s extremely hard to tell where this splits off from history. The story takes place in “Anglia”, which is obviously meant to be the UK, and “Gaul” is mentioned across the channel, for France… But other than that, and aside from the usual patriarchy, it […]
