Book Haul #24: To All the Books I’ve Loved Before

Book Haul #24: To All the Books I’ve Loved Before

Another month, another book haul! With a new job and a fresh paycheck I finally had some cash to spend on some beautiful bookish lovelies. However, as per one of my weird quirks, I tried to limit the additions to my TBR pile, and thus spent some cold hard cash supporting the authors I’ve read ARCs from and loved. Worth every penny. Purchased Here are the books I’ve read early copies of and loved. All of them, as such, have been hauled before as (e)ARCs and have reviews up here on the blog. To avoid too much repetition of, “I LOVED THIS BOOK,” and “OBVIOUS […]

Book Review: Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Book Review: Vicious by V.E. Schwab

For as long as I can remember, a book with an “evil” main character, or anti-hero, has been on the very top of my reading wishlist. (We’ll ignore the glaringly idiotic fact that I had this book on my shelf for more than a year and a half and didn’t read it.) Vicious burst into the world with no small amount of hype, so it was somewhat daunting to read it, but boy am I glad I did. This book will be on my favorites shelf for years. Vicious takes all the superhero movies you ever loved and twists them into something far more complex. […]

ARC Book Review: Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson

ARC Book Review: Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson

It’s very hard for me to see a cover and premise that hint at steampunk and then pass that book up – and so it was that Rebel Mechanics entered my eager hands. This alternate history is unique, interesting, and incredibly entertaining – and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next. Rebel Mechanics tells the story of an alternate history where the US never gained independence. This happened because of the existence of magic in the ruling upperclass of Britain – they use their power to dominate the colonies and ruin any chance at industrial revolution. Without machines, the Americans don’t stand […]

Blog Tour Review + Giveaway: Jesse’s Girl by Miranda Kenneally

Blog Tour Review + Giveaway: Jesse’s Girl by Miranda Kenneally

A new Miranda Kenneally book is always cause for celebration. Since reading all 5 Hundred Oaks books last year, I’ve known I can count on her to bring the fluffy swoons and dynamic characters that instantly put a smile on my face. Such is the case again with Jesse’s Girl. Honestly, by this point, I can’t imagine Kenneally ever letting me down. Jesse’s Girl is the first book in the Hundred Oaks series that is completely unrelated to sports – however, there’s another “hobby” to take its place: music. The main character, Maya (Sam Henry’s little sister), dreams of becoming a musician. She adores 80’s […]

ARC Book Review: The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

ARC Book Review: The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

Trust me, no one is more surprised than I, but I actually really liked The Heart of Betrayal. After reading the first book in the series, The Kiss of Deception, I was dreading even reading this at all despite having a review copy. But wow. Now this is a series I can get behind. My primary complaint about The Kiss of Deception was that there was hardly a plot and way too heavy a focus on the love triangle which I found insufferable. The Heart of Betrayal shuts down both of those complaints. The cliffhanger at the end of The Kiss of Deception indicated that […]

Book Review: William Shakespeare’s The Clone Army Attacketh by Ian Doescher

Book Review: William Shakespeare’s The Clone Army Attacketh by Ian Doescher

The adventure continues! Followers of my blog will know I’ve been knee deep in the William Shakespeare’s Star Wars series for well over a year now. As a true Star Wars fan and lover of words, I cannot resist. William Shakespeare’s The Clone Army Attacketh brings another fun, funny, and insightful installment to the series, accompanied by the beautiful illustrations fans are already familiar with. The movie Attack of the Clones has been pretty much second to last in my order of preference of the Star Wars movies, so Doescher had his work cut out for him. However, he took my most hated movie and […]

Monthly Wrap-Up: June 2015

Monthly Wrap-Up: June 2015

June 2015: in which I made some blog changes! June was a busy, busy month. I got more comfortable at work, but it’s been pretty time consuming, and all of that together with other pressures on blogging led to me resolving to make some changes to the blog. But, it’s a good thing. I already feel much more relaxed, and I’m having fun making plans for my reduced blogging schedule and all the free time I’ll have left over. AND, of course, I read some awesome books. June Reads Books Read: The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord Tangled Webs by Lee Bross […]
