Most Wanted: October 2015

Most Wanted: October 2015

October always seems to be an EPIC month for new book releases. I have like 6 pre-ordered already, and my wallet is basically CRYING. But I’m excited anyway, so STFU wallet! Here are the books I’m most excited about. October 6th The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness: I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. It’s so smart and funny, but also sad and heartbreaking. I had so many feelings. And I love its depiction of OCD because damn. Ness is probably turning out to be one of my favorite authors. The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan: I was the tiniest bit […]

ARC Book Review: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

ARC Book Review: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

Oh man. First of all, I just want to say ten thousand thank yous to Tiemen and the American Book Center for making it possible for me to read this early. It might very well be the most exciting review copy I’ve ever had the honor of receiving. Those who know me will probably know that Uncle Rick is one of my absolute favorite authors. His mix of fantasy, adventure, mythology, and humor just steals my heart every single time. And The Sword of Summer is no different. The Sword of Summer is the start of a new series based around Norse mythology. Now, while […]

ARC Book Review: The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas

ARC Book Review: The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas

Ever since I first cracked open The Burning Sky, I’ve been completely infatuated with The Elemental Trilogy. Sherry Thomas created such awesome characters and such an amazing ship, that I got swept up in their adventures instantly and any complaints I had were largely ignored. So, my expectations might have been a bit high for The Immortal Heights, but nonetheless, Thomas met them and delivered an awesome ending consistent with the quality of the rest of the series. I did actually reread The Burning Sky and The Perilous Sea before diving into the conclusion, because I wanted to be sure that all of the previous […]

Top Ten Books on My Fall 2015 TBR List

Top Ten Books on My Fall 2015 TBR List

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. Ha. Haha. Remember when I said on my summer TBR that I should make the whole list, because I had less review copies? Well I lied. I did have plenty of review copies and plenty of tougher reads which meant that I read much more slowly. I failedddd. 6/10. Here’s hoping fall goes better. I’m at least trying to be more realistic. From My Shelf 1 – 3. Every Breath, Every Word, and Every Move by Ellie Marney: A repeat from the last list – but […]

Book Haul #26: The One with the Most Exciting ARC Ever

Book Haul #26: The One with the Most Exciting ARC Ever

My last book haul was so small, and I was so proud of it… and then this happened. BUT TO BE FAIR – it was my birthday. So I can blame my far-too-generous friends (>.>) and at the end of the day I *only* bought 7 books this month. …I’m not sure I’m making this any better, but whatever, just go check out the berrrrks. Purchased Maid-sama!, volume 1 & 2 by Fujiwara Hiro: Yeah, this is different – I bought a manga. But this also should be obvious because this is one of my top three favorite mangas of all time – I even […]

ARC Book Review: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

ARC Book Review: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

Oh man. Ever since my first encounter with Patrick Ness, I’ve known I can count on him to deliver smart, original, and compassionate diverse books. But this one basically took it to a whole new level. The Rest of Us Just Live Here made me laugh, sigh, and put tears in my eyes. Whether you’re a contemporary or fantasy reader, this one is not to be missed. First point of awesomeness: this concept. Ness strikes the perfect balance between fantasy and contemporary. The Rest of Us Just Live Here is set in our world, but magic, paranormal creatures, and chosen ones (referred to as “indie […]

Book Review: Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Book Review: Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Uprooted is one of those books that had a pretty quiet release, but then a massive tidal wave of hype in the book blogging community. People who know me probably know that hype and I aren’t exactly friends. And I feel like the book would have benefited if I waited a year or so to read this, so that some of those hyped thoughts would have faded from my mind. So ultimately though I won’t praise this book as utter perfection, I think it is a brilliant book that is worth reading. Just.. maybe not quite at all-of-the-feels level. Uprooted is another fantasy take on […]
