Most Wanted: December 2015

It’s the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR~! Oh, man, I do love December. I love Christmas, I love the music, the food, the decorations that come with it, and I love curling up with a mug of glühwein on a cold wintery day. Let’s not forget books. It’s the gift giving season! Surely there are some new releases that have caught my eye? What? ONLY TWO ON MY LIST. You guys are going to have to help me out. December 1st Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: *siiiigh* I was a major black sheep for This Shattered World, so much so […]

Book Review: Every Breath by Ellie Marney

Book Review: Every Breath by Ellie Marney

Ever since its release last year in the US, Every Breath has been spreading around the YA book blogging circuit as one of the most hyped titles ever. But, I mean, with a premise of a modern YA Sherlock with a female Watson and the promise of great shippy times, who can blame them? I certainly couldn’t resist. And I’m so glad I didn’t. This boooooook. You guys. Like, seriously. Read it. So, elephant in the room: basically everyone who has read this book has been going crazy about the romance. I kinda hate hype like that, but I would be lying (SO HARD) if […]

Book Review: Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Book Review: Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Having read and very much enjoyed Haddix’s Shadow Children series when I was younger, when Just Ella was selected as our next book club pick, I was all for it! I mean, my history with the author aside, I very much enjoy fairy tale retellings anyway and the newly redesigned cover took my breath away. But, in the end, I am a bit disappointed in this book. Just Ella has all the ingredients to be a refreshing, feminist take on Cinderella, but very little heart. There’s no one specific complaint I have about this book, but all throughout it I was never really fully engaged. […]

ARC Book Review: The Trouble with Destiny by Lauren Morrill

ARC Book Review: The Trouble with Destiny by Lauren Morrill

No one is more upset about this than I am. I loved Morrill’s debut Meant to Be so much that I was convinced I could soon add her to my favorite authors list. Cute, romantic books with real characters and personal resonance? That’s instant bait for a fluff-devourer like me. But The Trouble with Destiny was just… not really my cup of tea. And one book does not a favorite author make. The Trouble with Destiny is basically A Midsummer Night’s Dream on a cruise ship between high school performing arts clubs with a super Disney Channel movie-like vibe. Now that’s the hook and, eventually, […]

Book Haul #28: Filled with Nostalgic Manga Feels

Book Haul #28: Filled with Nostalgic Manga Feels

Last month’s book haul was a bit later and larger than usual, so this one’s small enough to start compensating. *cough* I mean, also, October was an expensive month (what with Computergate) and I’m forcing myself to buy less books in preparation for Christmas as well. However, even with all those reasons, I couldn’t just not buy ANYTHING, okay? Purchased Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler: Yeah, I already had and read an e-copy of this one, but I loved it so much that I needed the physical copy to HUG. I actually ordered it back in July, but it was consistently out of […]

ARC Book Review: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

ARC Book Review: Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler

As awesome as Dahlia is as a person and a Twitter presence, it makes me so happy to confidently say that I don’t think she can write a book I wouldn’t like. With Just Visiting as a fourth success in my book, I am a very happy bookworm indeed. This college visit road trip novel, with its excellent focus on friendship, put a definite smile on my face. Just Visiting tells the adventures of Reagan and Victoria – two best friends in their last year of high school, going out on college visits, desperate to get out of their way-too-small town. It’s a story about […]

Book Review: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

Book Review: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

God – fucking – dammit. I think my review of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before made it exceedingly obvious that I adored that book. I shouted my love from the rooftops. I couldn’t wait to dive into the sequel and have more of the happy shippy feels that so delighted me. BUT NO. THIS. FREAKING. SUCKS. At the end of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, we are left on a pretty exciting and promising cliffhanger: Lara Jean finally admits to having feelings for Peter and maybe they can happen for real. Misunderstandings notwithstanding, he makes her happy, and that’s worth an […]

Book Review: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Book Review: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Ever since the too-adorbs-for-words cover of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was released, I was pretty much convinced I had to read this. It just looks so cute and lovely – and Jenny Han is an author that I’ve been meaning to check out for a while. Well, I finally got enough room in my schedule to read it and… LOVE. Loved, loved, loved this book. It is top notch banterfluff, make no mistake. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before tells the story of Lara Jean, a Korean-American junior in high school, whose love letters to her old crushes accidentally get mailed […]
