January 2016: busy busy making plans…

Was January really only 31 days? Because it felt like a lifetime. Mostly in a good way, I guess – I’ve been keeping really busy at work and spending my free time however the hell I want – but yeah, I decided to give myself a little break from blogging. I do feel recharged though, and hopefully February will be better.

On the Big Screen

TV Series:

Doctor Who: I continued on with my Doctor Who rewatch, finally arriving at the glory of series 7, where I relived all my Whoufflé feels. They are so perf, guys, I can’t even. I actually watched most of it AGAIN when the biffle came to stay. But I can never get enough of Whoufflé. I AM still angry about 11’s departure though. Do not like that episode one bit.

How I Met Your Mother: I’ve been failing at watching new episodes of stuff because I’ve almost exclusively been in the mood for comedy. HIMYM is perfect for that. Though I’m now on season 4 and I think I’ll stop after season 5 or so. I do not need to relive that ending.

Movies:

This begs an explanation, but yeah, thanks to my dad and my new Smart TV, I now have access to my dad’s collection of OVER 1000 MOVIES, so basically I’m never leaving my couch ever again.

You’ve Got Mail: I was in a romcom mood, so this was the first movie I turned to. It was a rewatch of course, and it still gave me all the feels. Why don’t they make em like this anymore???

Made of Honor: I actually adore this movie. Another rewatch, but good for my feeeeels.

Love, Rosie: Had not seen this before, but I thought Sam Claflin in a romcom? GIMME. Turns out there was very little comedy involved. Also: teen pregnancy. Mehhhhh.

When Harry Met Sally: Would you believe I’d actually never seen this before? But yeah, I… sadly feel like it’s overrated. I did not get on the feels bus.

Definitely, Maybe: A rewatch, but only because I adore this movie. (1) Ryan Reynolds is always the cutest. (2) Super adorable father-daughter scenes.

The Rewrite: I usually think you can never go wrong with a Hugh Grant movie, but this one was pretty darn average. Meh.

No Strings Attached: A rewatch whilst still in the romcom mood, and I liked it. But it’s not super amazing.

He’s Just Not That Into You: This is one of my all-time favorite movies and it just makes me so happy. When Alex and Gigi get together my heart soars EVERY TIME.

Friends with Benefits: Another of my favorites, another rewatch. Justin Timberlake is so damn awesome. And I love the genuine friendship between Dylan and Jamie.

The Intern: Of the new movies I watched this month, this was absolutely my favorite. Anne Hathaway killed it as a feminist badass, and Robert De Niro is so so charming. GREAT movie.

Leap Year: A rewatch, but as far as romcoms go, this is one of the more cliché ones. I had a good time laughing at it with the biffle though.

Sliding Doors: Everyone always references this movie when talking about parallel universes, so I had to finally see what the fuss was about. I’m… not that impressed. Not a bad movie, but the concept can be done so much better.

Angels & Demons: Rewatch when I discovered there was an EXTENDED EDITION. There wasn’t much added, but I love this movie so much I didn’t care. Tom Hanks is brilliant. And Hans Zimmer is a genius.

The Da Vinci Code: Also a rewatch, because there’s ALSO an extended edition – but this time there was actually like 20 more minutes added. And some of those scenes were very valuable and made the story more cohesive. Anyway, awesome movie – though I do prefer Angels & Demons.

Through My Speakers

In Real Life

  • I started the month with a crazy cold that endured for the better part of three weeks. So that explains part of my apathy towards blogging, my desire for romcoms and sitcoms, and my general laziness. I’m all better now though.
  • The biffle has officially moved back to the Netherlands! And he found an apartment and everything 🙂 He stayed with me for a weekend, where we watched even more Doctor Who.
  • Two book club meetings this month! The first was our belated December meeting, where we also had our Secret Santa gift exchange, and Mel knocked it out of the park for me. The second was last week and involved yummy yummy (but expensive) sushi.
  • Finally, I’ve gotten to plan my next vacations! I’m taking a couple days off in February, since my dad is coming to the Netherlands so I can spend some time with him. Then in April, I’ll be going to Washington DC with my mom to visit my sister for a week, and then I’ll be going on to New York to our office there to formally meet and hang out with my team for three days 🙂 SO EXCITING.

That’s it for me! How was your month?

  1. Reading this post def put me on the mood for re-watching all romcoms that I used to love when I was younger, specially Definitely, Maybe which I remember there was lots of tears involved when I watched a thousand years ago.

  2. Breaks are good, I’m glad you were able to relax away from work! I’m the same way, it’s hard for me to watch new tv sometimes but Chris and I got really into Brooklyn 99 and watched all the eps in a couple weeks! So fun. OMG 1000 movies!!! That’s so cool! You’ve Got Mail is one of my very favorites, I adore that movie. Whenever I’m sad my mom says to me “Don’t cry Shopgirl” 🙂 Made of Honor was cute, I can’t resist rom coms like that. I think I’ve only seen Angels & Demons once, I should watch it again! Aww I hope you’re feeling better, that’s rough. And HOW FUN to have your BFF back near you 😀 Sounds like you have some exciting months coming up. I will send you a letter sooooooooon (I’m the worst). Happy reading and watching!
