Most Wanted: July 2016

Most Wanted: July 2016

It’s 100% summer now and I don’t know about you, but I’m loving it! Yeah, that does mean less new book releases, but who didn’t need some time to catch up? And all the same, there are some books coming out this month that I have been absolutely dying for. Here’s looking at you, Kasie. July 5th This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab: I already read this one, but I can’t help mentioning it anyway. And, well, I am waiting on my pre-order. It’s my least favorite Schwab book so far, but the series has so much potential, and this is another 100% fresh and […]

Top Ten Books On My Summer 2016 TBR List

Top Ten Books On My Summer 2016 TBR List

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. So this week the topic is a freebie, but since I didn’t see the summer TBR list in any upcoming Top Ten Tuesday, I figured I would take this opportunity to do it anyway. Seasonal TBR lists are kind of one of my favorite things. And here’s the proof – I smashed it in my spring TBR list. 10/10, bitches! Now let’s do it again! From My Shelves 1. The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett: I got this one from the loveliest Christina, […]

Book Review: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Book Review: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

If you haven’t heard of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, you may well be living under a rock. Aside from the movie adaptation hitting theaters later this year, this has been one of the most consistently hyped YA series for the past 5 years. And yet I’m only getting around to it now. Whoops. This book has a killer concept, but didn’t fully resonate with me. The best thing and major selling point of Miss Peregrine’s has to be its concept. Ransom Riggs collected strange and eerie photographs and created a dark and twisted story around them. Peculiars are people with paranormal abilities, and […]

Top Ten Favorite Reads in 2016 So Far

Top Ten Favorite Reads in 2016 So Far

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I’m twisting this week’s topic a bit, because I don’t ONLY read new releases. I’ve been trying to read more backlist books this year, and I would be sad to not be able to mention them now. Most of these are 2016 releases, but I cannot leave out those few that aren’t 😉 LET’S GO! Top Ten Favorite Reads in 2016 So Far 1. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab: Oh man, remember that time when out of the blue I won an ARC of […]

Book Haul #35: In Which All the Books Are TOO PRECIOUS

Book Haul #35: In Which All the Books Are TOO PRECIOUS

A relatively small haul this time, and mostly it consists of finished copies of books I’ve already read. So yeah. Still keeping that TBR pile in check. Maybe the best accomplishment of this haul is that there are absolutely no review books. Booyah. Purchased Cardcaptor Sakura, Omnibus 3 by CLAMP: These babies are a bit expensive, so I’m buying them when the prices drop on Amazon… But make no mistake – this is my favorite animanga series of all time. So happy to have this ♥ Wanderlost by Jen Malone: Christina would not stop talking about this book, and since I was totally in the […]

Book Review: The Forbidden Orchid by Sharon Biggs Waller

Book Review: The Forbidden Orchid by Sharon Biggs Waller

Two years ago I fell completely head over heels for Sharon Biggs Waller’s debut, A Mad, Wicked Folly. So the fact that I would pick up The Forbidden Orchid was kind of self-evident. Though well-researched and an interesting exposition of the setting, I didn’t feel like this book quite lived up to my expectations. The Forbidden Orchid is kind of an adventure story in China right around the end of the Second Opium War. It starts in Victorian England, where Elodie, in an effort to save her family, eventually sneaks onto a tea clipper to accompany her father to China. Her father is a plant […]

Book Review: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Book Review: The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Since reading Since You’ve Been Gone, Morgan Matson has pretty much gotten on my auto-buy author list. Especially when her covers turn out to be LITERALLY CUTE AS PUPPIES – LIKE, WITH ACTUAL PUPPIES. I mean, I couldn’t picture a book more fluffy and all about summer fun times – and that’s exactly what this book was. It was DELIGHTFUL. The Unexpected Everything is about Andie, the daughter of a Congressman, who has always been about intense future plans living up to the stringent ideals that her dad’s job kind of foists upon her. So her plan for the summer was to do a pre-med […]
