4 Years of Blogging: Looking Back and Looking Forward

4 Years of Blogging: Looking Back and Looking Forward

Pop the champagne and toss up the confetti – today, Snuggly Oranges is 4 years old!!! Holy crap guys. I am simultaneously impressed and shocked, and at the same time, I’m shrugging this off because it’s not really a big deal. I don’t have trouble sticking with hobbies, and I was blogging long before I ended up here. So it makes sense that I’d still be here. I’ve never really celebrated a “blogiversary” before, but with four years… this blog is a college graduate! It seems like the right time to do some reflecting. In four years I… Posted 756 times. Read 411 books. Reviewed […]

2015 Favorites

2015 Favorites

Here we are – my final 2015 wrap up post: my non-bookish favorites. I did this same post last year and I just enjoy making these lists so much, I figured I’d do it again. There’s more to my life than just books, after all. 🙂 Top 10 TV Series of 2015 As always, I watch a lot of series. I also spent quite some time binging series in 2015 – and I didn’t start as many new series… But this is the list of the top 10 series that rocked my world in 2015 – some old, some new. The Newsroom: Rewatched at least […]

♫ Get in line for the sunshine ♫

♫ Get in line for the sunshine ♫

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you might have noticed gradually increasing excitement and restlessness – but the time has finally come: I’m going on vacation! Shortly after this post goes live, I’ll be on a plane on my way to Turkey with my biffle. This is the first proper “relax in the sun and do nothing” vacation I’ve taken in three years, sooo yeah, I’m excited. We’ll be at an all-inclusive resort for 8 days – arguably still short, but hopefully more than enough time to recharge. Sometimes I schedule posts far in advance so the blog continues on even when I’m […]

The State of the Blog

The State of the Blog

Hello folks! Welcome to my State of the Blog Address. (I’m so incredibly original, it kills me.) I have always run this blog with 100% honesty, and that’s why today I wanted to let you all know about some changes that will be happening on the blog as soon as next week, and why I believe they are necessary. Hopefully, you’ll understand where I’m coming from, and this will let us all move on to happier blogging times. I’ve been blogging actively here since October of 2012 – more than two and a half years. And in that time a lot of things have changed […]

I Read for Characters

I Read for Characters

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know about how I really wasn’t a reader growing up – in fact, I didn’t read much at all before 2012. So now that I’ve been reading steadily, truly a tremendous number of books per year in a wide variety of genres, I’ve been discovering some things about myself as a reader, the first and foremost being… I read for characters. Honestly, you can give me the most elaborate world building and creative story, but if the characters are flat and don’t have a personality, I will quickly lose interest. I’m delighted by complex characters, I […]

2014 Favorites

2014 Favorites

I know this is like SUPER late, but hey, I moved in January and blogging did not make the priorities list. I did sum up my favorite books of 2014 in a broad range of categories in my 2014 End of Year Book Survey, but there are a lot of other things that I LOVED in 2014, so I thought I would share those with you quickly! 🙂 TV series I watch a LOT of series. There are so many that I follow on a weekly basis, and I binge watch others in between and wow. Cutting down this list was extremely hard – especially […]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it today, and happy holidays if you do not! I hope you can enjoy the holiday season, because it’s probably my favorite time of the year. Ever since we started celebrating Christmas, after moving to the US in 1999, it’s been something I always look forward to – not just because of presents (though, ngl, those are always pretty great) but because I love the festive spirit and everything just seems brighter, lighter, happier around that time of year. Last year I shared some of my family’s traditions and my favorite things about the holiday, and this year […]

It’s been a RIDICULOUS week…

It’s been a RIDICULOUS week…

Time for something completely different, completely non-book related. I’m just sitting down and chatting with you guys because WOAH what a week of high highs and low lows and just… Everything started on Tuesday, when during my morning commute someone jumped in front of my train. I knew this happened all the time, sadly, but I could never have imagined how hearing that crash and feeling those bumps would affect me as a passenger. I was completely shaken up. The whole day I felt out of sorts, and I couldn’t stop thinking about that morning – how horrible it must be that that seemed like […]
