Six of Crows Release Party: #MagicAndMayhem with Leigh Bardugo!

Six of Crows Release Party: #MagicAndMayhem with Leigh Bardugo!

Last weekend, I had the immense honor of meeting Leigh Bardugo on her Magic and Mayhem tour stop in my very own Rotterdam ♥ I’ve loved all of her books so far, but I had no idea the woman behind them would be quite so awesome. Here are some of the highlights! The Interview As with most book events, we kicked things off with an interview. It was an event celebrating the release of the Dutch translation of Six of Crows, so most of the audience had yet to read it, and the conversation was more focused on the Grisha series. Six of Crows and […]

Book Haul #11: The Belated BEA Haul

Heeeeyy guys. So this week I’m officially closing the book on all things BEA (don’t forget to read part 1 and part 2 for all my New York and BEA adventures!), which means my long awaited book haul is here. Now, I do have a vlog of this – but I recorded it at the beginning of June, so some of the things I say are a bit out of date. BUT WHATEVER. WATCH AND ENJOY. Pre-BEA Books Thursday Haul Friday Haul Saturday Haul Swag Haul Gifted The Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman (Thanks Gaby!) The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise (Thanks […]

Recap: New York + Book Expo America 2014, Part 2

Recap: New York + Book Expo America 2014, Part 2

I hope you all enjoyed part 1 of my adventures in New York earlier this week! But let’s face it: now we’re getting to the main event – the conference itself and all the events and bookishness surrounding that. I hope I can do my adventures justice. Day 5: Wednesday, May 28th Officially, Wednesday was not a BEA day, as I elected to skip the Book Blogger Conference (probably a good thing too, considering the drama at one of the panels, which ended up ripping a divide between book bloggers and booktubers). But Gaby and I woke up at a decent hour and went down […]

Recap: New York + Book Expo America 2014, Part 1

Recap: New York + Book Expo America 2014, Part 1

Though it was already quite a while ago, this year in May, I went to Book Expo America 2014 in New York. I knowww, I fail at only getting to the recap now, but hey, just be glad I’m doing it. Okay? Today I’ll be recapping the stuff that happened before the conference actually began, as the orange took over New York. Now, let’s get this straight: I lived in the US for ten years, so if you’re hoping for quirky observations about how …unique America is, you won’t get that from me. However, I’ll share some tips along the way and some reminders to […]

Time to Re-evaluate

Time to Re-evaluate

So. Hi there. You may have noticed that the blog has been incredibly quiet. Basically the only reason something has been posted in the past two weeks is because I was committed to the Halloween event, and I wrote and scheduled my review of Hyperbole and a Half at the beginning of the month, after I read it. And yes, I did take a Twitter holiday for 5 days. It was glorious. To be honest, I’m not feeling it right now. I have seen ugly sides of the blogging community and it got to the point where I logged on, something managed to piss me off within […]

Meet the Author: Samantha Shannon of The Bone Season

Meet the Author: Samantha Shannon of The Bone Season

This past Monday, I had the immense honor of meeting Samantha Shannon, author of the debut novel The Bone Season. It was somewhat of a surprise – the event was planned super last minute, so I only knew about it five days before that. Sadly, that meant that it was way too short notice to find a hardcover copy of the book. Amazon would likely get it here just one day too late. Judith, bless her heart, went around to a ton of bookstores in Amsterdam to try to find it. Turned out that there honestly wasn’t a single hardcover copy of The Bone Season for sale […]

Meeting Neil Gaiman & The Story of The Ocean at the End of the Lane

Meeting Neil Gaiman & The Story of The Ocean at the End of the Lane

If you didn’t catch the latest updates on the #GaimanGate fiasco, eventually I was offered the opportunity to go to the Rotterdam event because spots had opened up and I was on the waiting list (or, you know, they saw my blog post). So this past Friday, I had the amazing and exciting opportunity to meet Neil Gaiman. It was… incredible. I felt immensely guilty for not having read his books yet *cough* but the man is just amazing. He has such charisma, and I love his dry sense of humor. I WILL FIX THE NOT HAVING READ HIS BOOKS YET THING SOON.The EventThe organization still […]

How Polare, a Dutch Bookstore, Crushed the Dreams of Many Neil Gaiman Fans

How Polare, a Dutch Bookstore, Crushed the Dreams of Many Neil Gaiman Fans

Here, ladies and gentlemen, is a different kind of post than you may be used to on Snuggly Oranges. But it is necessary. Because I, and many other readers and fans, are pissed after having been completely screwed over by Polare.Let’s back up a second though. As you may know, I live in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is, obviously, not a native English speaking country and as such, we don’t get many author events. So as a reader in the Netherlands, I jump at the chance to meet any author. Such a chance presented itself when, roughly a month ago, I discovered that Neil Gaiman […]
