The Keys To My Heart #8: Illustrated Covers

The Keys To My Heart #8: Illustrated Covers

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the bookish things that steal my heart. #8. Illustrated Covers Recently I was talking with Christina from A Reader of Fictions. She’d just read Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan and was convinced I’d like it too. My first reaction? THE COVERS OF THE SERIES DON’T MATCH THOUGH. Seriously, Unspoken had the cutest illustrated cover, but when the sequel came out, they did a mid-series redesign and made it look like every other paranormal book series ever. This got us on the topic of illustrated covers. They are so freaking delightful. It’s just so much more creative […]

Book Nerd Problems #25: I’m Cheating On My Book.. With More Books!

Book Nerd Problems #25: I’m Cheating On My Book.. With More Books!

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #25. I’m Cheating On My Book.. With More Books! Up until recently, I had always been a serial monogamist when it came to books. I would devote all my time reading one book until it was finished and then moved on to the next one. BUT. With so many September and October review copies which I wasn’t all enjoying… I’ve started… cheating on my books. GASP. I know. Now, I’m not saying that either book monogamy or book polygamy (if you will) is wrong. It’s […]

Is It Okay To Change Your Ratings Over Time?

Is It Okay To Change Your Ratings Over Time?

Since I recently went through all my old reviews to update their formatting and add them to my review archive, I couldn’t help but notice that some of my ratings were a little… strange. Mostly, they were inflated. And I might have adjusted some of them where I saw fit, because I couldn’t help but feel like those books… deserved it. Some may consider this a faux pas. I mean, these thoughts were legitimate and honest at some point in time. I never lie in my reviews. I usually write my review RIGHT after finishing the book, so we can’t say that I wasn’t expressing […]

The Keys To My Heart #7: Parallel Universes

The Keys To My Heart #7: Parallel Universes

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the bookish things that steal my heart. #7. Parallel Universes If you’ve been around the blog and have read my Top Ten Tuesday posts, you’ve probably noticed a trend among some of my favorite books. I am in love with the concept of parallel universes. It instantly puts books on my radar and more often than not, I absolutely love them. What I define as a parallel universe story: basically, the main character goes through two different timelines or exists in two (or more) worlds that are very similar, but differ in some way. For example: […]

Book Nerd Problems #24: I Am A Book Buying Addict

Book Nerd Problems #24: I Am A Book Buying Addict

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #24. I Am A Book Buying Addict Guys. I dunno if you know. And I dunno if maybe my book hauls of 10-17 books per month tipped you off. But I kind of have a bit of a book buying problem. I’m sure most of you can relate to this though. I mean, I’ll see you all at Book Buyers Anonymous next Tuesday, right? *cough* But joking aside, it really does seem like an addiction. I go through sort of withdrawal symptoms if I haven’t […]

Book Nerd Problems #23: CLIFFHANGERS

Book Nerd Problems #23: CLIFFHANGERS

This is a periodic discussion feature here at Snuggly Oranges about the many problems one can run into as a book nerd. #23. CLIFFHANGERS I’m actually surprised I hadn’t covered this topic already, because it seems like a rather obvious one. But I dunno about you guys – lately, I’ve been hit over the head with terrible cliffhanger after terrible cliffhanger. Now, I’m not saying that ALL cliffhangers are awful. Indeed, it’s a technique that can be well done and have me on the edge of my seat, salivating for the next book in a series. BUT, they are not all like that. In fact, I would […]

Is Twitter Essential For Your Blog?

Is Twitter Essential For Your Blog?

Lately I’ve been wondering about how essential Twitter actually is to blogging. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Twitter bunches. I really feel like that’s where the community comes to life. So many discussions about so many different topics – Twitter is how I would say I really became friends with many other book bloggers and readers out there. I’ll be the first to say that my social life in reality is not really buzzing with activity, you know, but with Twitter there’s always someone I can talk to – just for fun, book-related or not, or to discuss things that are irritating or […]

Adventures in Audiobooks

Adventures in Audiobooks

– Source At the beginning of the year, I made it my resolution to try out audiobooks. We’re now well into the year, and I can confirm that I LOVE AUDIOBOOKS, SRSLY FOR REALS. I’ve listened to five or so so far, and I’m a total convert. I thought I’d tell you a bit about my observations today for anyone who is considering checking out this format. Pros: I can multitask and thus keep being productive. With an audiobook, my time spent on chores including cleaning, cooking, eating, laundry, grocery shopping, *cough*playing Kim Kardashian: Hollywood*cough*, all become reading time! I was a bit scared beforehand […]
