Book Review: Run by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: Run by Kody Keplinger

Ever since I first read The DUFF – which, incidentally, was one of the first books that got me into YA contemporary romances – Kody Keplinger has been one of my favorite authors of all time. Obviously, that means that I have rather high expectations, and reviewing books when they don’t live up to those expectations is ridiculously hard. Run was not exactly a Debby book. I already feel horrible about saying that, because when it comes to own voices, this is one of the most authentic and personal books on the market. Kody is blind, and in this book, Agnes is blind. Bo is […]

ARC Book Review + GIVEAWAY: Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger

ARC Book Review + GIVEAWAY: Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger

Lying Out Loud seemed to pop up out of nowhere – and after so long without a YA Keplinger novel, you can bet your ass I was EXCITED AS HELL. Then I got the chance to read this as an ARC that was personally signed to me by Kody herself and *DEAD* Lying Out Loud is cute and funny and happymaking and yayyyyy ♥ So Lying Out Loud tells the story of Sonny Ardmore, a compulsive liar, who sort of accidentally ends up catfishing a guy who she slowly realizes she has feelings for. The unfortunate part of that is that (a) the guy, Ryder, […]

Book Review: The Swift Boys & Me by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: The Swift Boys & Me by Kody Keplinger

If you know me, you’ll know that one author I will always shout about, no matter what, is Kody Keplinger. Her young adult novels just have a way of being really emotional for me, and her refreshing voice perfectly conveys messages that I find to be extremely important to teenagers. Each of her books has really touched my heart in different ways, so when I heard that she was bringing out a middle grade novel, I was all for it. It’s different, to be sure, but again Keplinger brought that prickly sensation to my eyes. With the backdrop of summer vacation, The Swift Boys & […]

Book Review: Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Why does Shut Out get so little love? Admittedly, next to Kody Keplinger’s other two books, this one doesn’t have that same spark of omg-flipping-awesome. But it has a lot of merit, and just like her other books, I enjoyed this romance a whole, whole lot. To think I was expecting it to be really average due to the ratings of my friends… sad! Prospective readers, do not fear! Kody delivers again! Shut Out is another edition of Kody Keplinger clearly proving to the world she knows just what it’s like to be a teenager and what teenagers think/talk about. This book focuses on… sex. At least […]

Book Review: A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

A Midsummer’s Nightmare is going on my favorites shelf. I read this heartfelt and authentic contemporary in one sitting, literally unable to put it down, and I felt the full spectrum of emotions while reading it. I laughed out loud. I cried (for real). This book holds a special place in my heart. Contemporary doesn’t get any better than this. Let me first focus on how relatable this plot was to me, because that is one of the things that really compelled me to keep reading until I was done in the middle of the night. My parents are divorced. It was not a friendly divorce. […]
