Book Review: Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Book Review: Uprooted by Naomi Novik

Uprooted is one of those books that had a pretty quiet release, but then a massive tidal wave of hype in the book blogging community. People who know me probably know that hype and I aren’t exactly friends. And I feel like the book would have benefited if I waited a year or so to read this, so that some of those hyped thoughts would have faded from my mind. So ultimately though I won’t praise this book as utter perfection, I think it is a brilliant book that is worth reading. Just.. maybe not quite at all-of-the-feels level. Uprooted is another fantasy take on […]

ARC Book Review: Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

ARC Book Review: Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

Last year I read and fell in love with Libba Bray’s writing in The Diviners, so even though its sequel counts a daunting 624 pages, I dove right in and got swept up in it all again. Lair of Dreams cements The Diviners as one of my favorite ongoing series. (We won’t speak about the cover catastrophe going on here.) It’s dark, creative, engrossing, frightening, exciting, and so well-written. Lair of Dreams picks up quite soon after The Diviners ended, and it doesn’t spend that much time catching you up – but for once that’s not much of a problem. Both installments of this series […]

ARC Book Review: The Pirate Code by Heidi Schulz

ARC Book Review: The Pirate Code by Heidi Schulz

When I read Hook’s Revenge last year, I had practically no expectations and got one of my favorite books of 2014. So to say that I was excited for the sequel would be a bit of an understatement. The Pirate Code is a brilliant follow-up to Hook’s Revenge, cementing this as one of my favorite middle grade series of all time. The Pirate Code has everything I love most about middle grade books. Jocelyn continues being awesome and adorable. This little girl takes charge of a pirate ship of adults who act like children, and she’s on a mission. She’s going to find her father’s […]

Book Review: Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Book Review: Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Ever since I started reading YA actively in 2012, I’ve heard the greatest things about Rachel Hawkins as being an author of excellent entertaining and fluffy paranormal romances. As such, I’ve been meaning to try out her books for ages, but it never quite made it to the top of my priority list. What an idiot am I. Rebel Belle is an absolute delight, and I can’t wait to check out all the rest of Hawkins’s works. Rebel Belle tells the story of Harper, an overachieving southern Belle, who out of the blue, after witnessing the death of her school janitor and being assaulted by […]

Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Ever since I read Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass, I knew that she was an author to keep up with. This woman is a storytelling master, creating such awesome characters, plots, and worlds that you just can’t help falling in love with. With each book of hers that I read, my love expands even more, and A Court of Thorns and Roses cements her as one of my all-time favorite authors. This creative Beauty and the Beast retelling is an absolute treat. A Court of Thorns and Roses is brilliant as a retelling. I wasn’t quite expecting it to stick so close to the […]

Book Review: The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

Book Review: The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

Kasie West is one of my absolute all-time favorite authors, as anyone who has read my blog probably knows. I will pre-order all of her books from now until the end of time, and read them almost as soon as they enter my hands. Such was the case with The Fill-In Boyfriend, which wasn’t only promising me excellent romantic fluff, but also one of my favorite tropes of all time: fake dating. This book is fluffy, awesome, and filled with meaningful character growth. The Fill-In Boyfriend tells the story of Gia, who is dumped… at prom. This was going to be the first time her […]

ARC Book Review: Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler

ARC Book Review: Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler

Let it be noted, for the record, that I love Dahlia – who is just a super awesome author person and super fun to talk to. But be that as it may, I wasn’t expecting to fall quite so deeply in love with Under the Lights. This is a wonderfully different and excellently fluffy LGBT book that just filled me with so much happiness. More ladies kissing, forever and always! I started reading Under the Lights when I didn’t quite feel like working on my blog, intending to just take a small break and read, at most, 50 pages or so. Instead, I read more […]

ARC Book Review: The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

ARC Book Review: The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen

Last year, Rachael Allen’s debut got a pretty mixed response within the YA blogging community, but as my closest friends loved it, she definitely got on my radar. So when The Revenge Playbook popped up on Edelweiss, with the premise being female friends teaming up to take revenge on the football team, I couldn’t resist. It sounded like just the kind of summer fluff I needed in my life. And I was 100% correct. This book is absolutely excellent. The Revenge Playbook tells the story of four unlikely friends, Liv, Peyton, Melanie Jane, and Ana, who spontaneously team up against the football team. Why? The […]
