Pokémon Go Book Tag

Pokémon Go Book Tag

I know what you’re thinking. THIS TAG EXISTS? WHAT STROKE OF GENIUS? Right. Well this is all thanks to Aentee @ Read At Midnight. When Lindsey tagged me in this I FREAKED OUT. So obviously. I had to do it. Right away. It’s all about Harry Potter for me. I don’t necessarily want to sound like a cliché, but it’s the truth. I’ve talked before about how I hated reading as a kid and Harry Potter was the only exception. However, the series that really got me to full on book nerd mode was The Hunger Games. And I will always cherish it for that. […]

Top Ten Books Set Outside of the USA

Top Ten Books Set Outside of the USA

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. This list is not entirely fair because it makes me want to pack up my bags and head out on vacation IMMEDIATELY. And I’m not going anywhere until November. *sobs forever* Bring on the Wanderlust 1. Just One Day by Gayle Forman: This book WHICH I AM STILL PRETENDING IS A STANDALONE was pretty much perfect. You see parts of London and a ton of Paris with a side of a tiny bit of Holland, all as a beautifully fleshed out backdrop to an amazing character […]

Top Ten Characters Who I Would Totally Want To Be For Halloween

Top Ten Characters Who I Would Totally Want To Be For Halloween

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. “IT’S ALMOST HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEEN!” she yells, as if she lives in a country where Halloween means anything. *cough* But, I mean, dressing up is fun anyway. Last year, for Blogger Trick or Treat, I shared some costumes for book nerds, and I gotta say, dressing up as a book character would be the way to go. So many awesome characters. Such badassery. Here are my top picks. 1. Celaena from the Throne of Glass series: Let’s face it, Celaena’s a freaking bad-ass. I’m worried about the silver […]

Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Top Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. I’m not gonna lie, this is a pretty tough topic for me. A lot of the real locations in books that I’ve read that are the most majestic, I’ve already been to. (Think Paris, London, New York…) And a lot of the fictional worlds, fantasy/sci-fi, are so caught up in wars, rebellions, or scary monsters that I don’t necessarily want to be there. Yes, once again, I’m taking a topic way too literally, but whatever, this is how I roll. Cue a pretty clichéd list. Real […]

Top Ten Friendships in Books

Top Ten Friendships in Books

This is a meme from The Broke and the Bookish. For info about the topics and how to participate, click here. As I looked at the topic for this week I had a moment like, “Wait, didn’t we do this topic just last year?” Well, we didn’t, but roughly a year ago I wrote an elaborate mushy post including examples of best friendships in books as a part of my “Keys to My Heart” discussion series. Awwwwwww. Year-ago-Debby was so cute. So, much of this list is repeated from that, but there are also some new examples of books I’ve read in the meantime. Smart Girls Get […]

Blogger Trick or Treat: Costumes for Book Nerds

Blogger Trick or Treat: Costumes for Book Nerds

So Halloween is coming up and of course (if I lived in a country that celebrated it) that’s something to be excited about! Haha, okay, I don’t celebrate Halloween, here in the Netherlands, but I did celebrate it as a child growing up in the US, so I have some fond memories there. Thus, when Kara and Lyn from Great Imaginations announced they were looking for people to participate in a Halloween event, I jumped at the opportunity! And then somehow I ended up having to post first and not really knowing what to do or if this was any good and ohmygodwhatamidoing whydidisignupforthis *cough* […]

Book Haul #2: The Motherload of Signed Books

Book Haul #2: The Motherload of Signed Books

Whoa, I have a lot to share with you all today, which is awesome and not awesome at the same time. It’s awesome, because all of it is amazing, but not awesome because I’m leaving for my Christmas vacation to Texas on Monday, so I don’t actually get to enjoy any of these books until halfway through January. Sad face. But they’re still awesome. Won So despite me having the worst luck in the world, I won Jennifer L. Armentrout‘s Players and Heroes giveaway, which she hosted together with author Laura Kaye. The prize came in this week and I’m still pretty much speechless about […]

Book Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Book Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

“Are you really reading about angels, Debby?” Yes. I read a book about angels. I too thought it would totally not be my cup of tea. But Laini Taylor is a master storyteller, has the most beautiful prose, and creates a story I would think impossible not to love. The prose was possibly the strongest point of this whole novel. The imagery, the descriptions, everything was so amazingly beautiful. Strong prose, I find, is a rarity in the YA genre, I don’t think I’ve encountered it this good before. It’s just an element that immediately sucks you right into the story. And it makes me […]
