Book Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

Book Review: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

My heart hurts right now. Though less cheery and bantery than Catching Jordan, Stealing Parker hit me right in the feels and was so meaningful… I need to just take a moment. *breathes out* Phew. I’m okay. I didn’t know what to expect at all, going into this book. I hadn’t read the premise, since I got it for my birthday from Christina and was resolved to read all the Miranda Kenneally books in existence anyway. The two others that I’d read, Catching Jordan and Breathe, Annie, Breathe were much more romance-centric than Stealing Parker, I think. Stealing Parker was more about character growth to […]

Audiobook Review: Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Audiobook Review: Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

After a much more enjoyable experience with Frostbite, listening to it on audiobook, I continued on with the series in this format as soon as I could. Now, Shadow Kiss gets a fair amount of hype for being the strongest in the series, which is particularly tied to a heartbreaking, shocking plot twist at the end of the book. Unfortunately for me, that twist was spoiled by an uncivilized human being thing on Goodreads who decided to ALL CAPS their outrage over that twist in their review, without spoiler tags – just two sentences to tell everyone WHAT happened and that they couldn’t believe it. […]

Audiobook Review: Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Audiobook Review: Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Those of you who’ve been around for a bit longer may remember my adventures in reading Vampire Academy as a vampire hater, practically on a dare. Though I found the overall experience likable enough, I wasn’t exactly over the moon enough to binge the series right away – and I certainly didn’t understand the hype. But this is where a different format can totally come in to save the day! I’m SO glad I decided to listen to this on audio. It has multiple benefits for me. First, I didn’t feel like I was spending that much time or concentration on it because I could […]

Book Review: Boomerang by Noelle August

Book Review: Boomerang by Noelle August

By now, if you follow my blog, you may have realized that I’m really discovering – and loving – the New Adult genre this year. That’s because FINALLY (*stands up and cheers*) NA books like Boomerang are coming out: books that are sexy, fun, flirty, personally relevant with new adult situations/feelings, and not bogged down in drama or trauma. First up is the personal relevance – Boomerang has it a shit ton for me. That’s not to say that I engage in one-night stands, but for the past year, I was a marketing intern! I loved seeing that – in fact, I haven’t really read […]

Book Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack

Book Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack

The new adult genre and I have a pretty complicated relationship. Well, as far as relationships go. I mean, I think I can still count the number of new adult books I’ve read on one hand. But the ones I’d read did not really entice me to go back for more. New adult, until now, has pretty much just been an excuse for explicit sex scenes. And typically, it’s romantic drama llama that ties into some tough subjects or dark pasts. All typically not my thing. But here comes Losing It, proving that new adult can be done right. Ideally, what I want from new […]

Book Review: Unteachable by Leah Raeder

Book Review: Unteachable by Leah Raeder

Unteachable is an indie New Adult romance that popped up on my radar last year after multiple blogger friends gave it high ratings and rave reviews. New Adult isn’t really my thing, but every once in a while, I am up for a steamy romance, and with its pretty cover and good prospects, Unteachable was at the top of that list to check out. I definitely enjoyed this read, and it was a great albeit coincidental Valentine’s gift to myself, but I’m feeling a bit… conflicted.

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

ARC Book Review: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

The Winner’s Curse is easily the most hyped up 2014 release so far, and it’s not hard to see why. Indeed this book is fantastic, and it will appeal to pretty much every young adult reader out there. Although I feel like the hype did raise my expectations too high, and it was impossible for the book to live up to that perfectly, I definitely loved this book. The Winner’s Curse comes out swinging, with a fantastic main character. Kestrel is extremely intelligent. Though she isn’t that powerful physically, her gift is her mind, which she uses to analyze the people around her and strategize […]

Book Review: A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

Book Review: A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger

A Midsummer’s Nightmare¬†is going on my favorites shelf. I read this heartfelt and authentic contemporary in one sitting, literally unable to put it down, and I felt the full spectrum of emotions while reading it. I laughed out loud. I cried (for real). This book holds a special place in my heart. Contemporary doesn’t get any better than this. Let me first focus on how relatable this plot was to me, because that is one of the things that really compelled me to keep reading until I was done in the middle of the night. My parents are divorced. It was not a friendly divorce. […]
