Audiobook Review: Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Audiobook Review: Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

After a much more enjoyable experience with Frostbite, listening to it on audiobook, I continued on with the series in this format as soon as I could. Now, Shadow Kiss gets a fair amount of hype for being the strongest in the series, which is particularly tied to a heartbreaking, shocking plot twist at the end of the book. Unfortunately for me, that twist was spoiled by an uncivilized human being thing on Goodreads who decided to ALL CAPS their outrage over that twist in their review, without spoiler tags – just two sentences to tell everyone WHAT happened and that they couldn’t believe it. […]

ARC Book Review: Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

ARC Book Review: Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

This book is so meta and so cool. And for its 600 pages, it read immensely smoothly and quickly. There’s no book quite like this one, and I definitely enjoyed it. It’s my first but definitely not my last adventure with Scott Westerfeld. Now, Afterworlds is essentially two books in one. On the one hand, we have a contemporary story of an author getting ready to publish her first book. And on the other hand, we have the book that she’s written. As such, I feel it’s only right to have this review be in parts as well. There’s just so much to cover. Lizzie’s […]

Audiobook Review: Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Audiobook Review: Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Those of you who’ve been around for a bit longer may remember my adventures in reading Vampire Academy as a vampire hater, practically on a dare. Though I found the overall experience likable enough, I wasn’t exactly over the moon enough to binge the series right away – and I certainly didn’t understand the hype. But this is where a different format can totally come in to save the day! I’m SO glad I decided to listen to this on audio. It has multiple benefits for me. First, I didn’t feel like I was spending that much time or concentration on it because I could […]

ARC Book Review: Jackaby by William Ritter

ARC Book Review: Jackaby by William Ritter

I start this review with a very heavy heart. No one is more upset than I am about this dismal rating. Though I would never say this book is bad or the worst, I had fully expected to absolutely adore it and be head over heels for it. I’m immensely disappointed, because this book was just average at best and a cheap knockoff at worst. To be fair: Jackaby is upfront about what it is – Sherlock meets Doctor Who. That blurb is what caught my attention and the reason why I picked it up, because as my friends probably know, I am a HUGE […]

Book Review: The Diviners by Libba Bray

Book Review: The Diviners by Libba Bray

The Diviners is one of those books that has been on my TBR list and my bookshelf for AGES, but I just never got around to. And, I mean, really, who can blame me – it’s almost 600 freaking pages. So this is when book club comes in to save the day! Book Club: The Way to Get Debby to Read Chunky Books™. Though I needed that extra push, I’m so glad I finally did it – finally read this wonderfully creepy book, which happens to be my first (and certainly not my last) encounter with Libba Bray. What immediately struck me upon reading The […]

Book Review: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Book Review: The Archived by Victoria Schwab

The Archived is one of those books that has just consistently been raved about since it came out. It was also one of those books that I had oddly written off – I didn’t think it would be something for me because, like, ghosts? Really? WELL DON’T I LOOK STUPID NOW. The ever fabulous Gaby forced me to read this and I’m so glad she did. It’s one of those times that reading out of your comfort zone totally pays off. This has none of the paranormal romance elements/drama that I feared and instead brought an exciting, creative, and entertaining story that I thoroughly loved. […]

ARC Book Review: Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre

ARC Book Review: Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre

*takes deep breaths* Where do I even begin? I’d heard great things about Ann Aguirre with her Razorland series, but I hadn’t read that one — because zombies. Anyway, when I heard about Mortal Danger, a dark book about a Faustian bargain made to take revenge on high school bullies, I was immediately intrigued. What I thought I was getting into turned out to be totally wrong, but the many thrills and chills I got instead made this one a fascinating read nonetheless. First things first, Mortal Danger takes the creepy bus to Creeptown – population: ME. Oh. My. God. This book. It’s so freaking […]

Book Review: The Falconer by Elizabeth May

Book Review: The Falconer by Elizabeth May

The Falconer is… whoa. Just WHOA. This is a debut? Are you kidding me? I’m addicted, I loved every second, and I want more. First point of love in this beautiful book with its lovely cover is the unstoppably fierce main character, Aileanna. Holy crap do I love Aileanna. She takes badass to a whole new level. She actually toes the line of morality. She kills faeries and actively loves it. I love a good vengeance story, and with her memories of her mother’s brutal and horrible death, it’s understandable where she’s coming from. I sympathized with her and was drawn into her mission. I […]
