Book Review: Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Book Review: Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

This was an interesting one. It came quite highly recommended, I believe one of the most highly anticipated YA Dystopias of the year. But I’m a bit torn, hence my rating. There were things I liked, things I didn’t like, things I thought could have benefited from more elaboration, but ultimately I think it’s a good set up for a series. My liking for it though will depend on the next installment of the series. I’m sort of on the fence. There were a lot of elements in this book that were amazingly good. I loved the concept of the Pods, the Realms, etc. These […]

Book Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Book Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

So I had been hearing about this book for ages, really. Almost two years and I just now got around to finally reading it. Considering what I had heard (not much about the story, but the emotions people had about it) I had pretty high expectations, but the book exceeded my wildest dreams. I cried. I seriously, seriously cried for almost the last quarter of the book. That honestly has never happened before. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten this emotional about a book. But it was crying in the best possible way, because it’s so uplifting. I just have to write this review now […]

Book Review: The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

Book Review: The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

Wow. After The Lost Hero, which was extremely disappointing to me, The Son of Neptune is a definite improvement. I started really skeptically, and the first half was extremely slow and contrived, but the second half more than made up for it. The Positives I think should first give honorable mention to Ella. I think of all the new characters introduced in The Heroes of Olympus, she is by far the best one. She’s extremely adorable, I love all the facts she spouts out – her dialogue is epic. The only less awesome thing to say about her is that I have no idea how […]

Book Review: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

Book Review: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

I have to say, coming off the high of The Last Olympian, this book is plain and simple: a letdown. There may be slight spoilers, so beware. Let’s start, however, with the positives. I was immediately ecstatic when I started reading because Riordan had decided to switch to third person narrative. I’ve always been a bigger fan of this style of writing, and here it did the story justice as well. The immediate result is a tone that just seems a lot more mature, and that suits the story because the characters are now in the later teen years. Riordan stuck to his winning formula, […]

Book Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Book Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I just finished reading Insurgent yesterday… And I don’t really know what to think about it. SPOILER ALERT, because I honestly can’t review this without spoiling stuff. It was just plain disappointing to me. Which is sad because I thought the first book was close to perfect. The world building, all the details and the analysis of the factions, the pros and cons of all the dominant personality traits… Action packed, with a romantic story that did not take the spotlight but was an absolutely a nice bonus. Most of all, it was a story that kept me interested the whole time, dying to figure […]

Book Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

Book Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

I decided to check out The Selection by Kiera Cass, in the week of its release. I have to admit, what really grabbed me was the cover. It’s just so, so, so pretty. ‘They’ call it “The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor” but I really don’t like that tagline. It’s not really like THG, no one dies, there is no huge dystopian rebellion. This is just what I call my guilty pleasure type book. Prince Maxon, I think, is amazing and adorable. After finishing reading it, I found out that they’ve shot a pilot for a TV series for the CW based on the book. […]
