Most Wanted: October 2015

Posted September 29, 2015 by Debby in Uncategorized

October always seems to be an EPIC month for new book releases. I have like 6 pre-ordered already, and my wallet is basically CRYING. But I’m excited anyway, so STFU wallet! Here are the books I’m most excited about.

October 6th

The Rest of Us Just Live Here The Sword of Summer Spinning Starlight

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness: I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. It’s so smart and funny, but also sad and heartbreaking. I had so many feelings. And I love its depiction of OCD because damn. Ness is probably turning out to be one of my favorite authors.

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan: I was the tiniest bit scared of this book, after I didn’t completely love the last Riordan series, but I got to read an ARC and this was SO FUN. It’s back to a first person POV, with tons of humor and lots of interesting Norse mythology stuff. Can’t wait to see where the series goes next!

Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis: EEEE! I absolutely adored Stitching Snow last year. I was completely charmed by Lewis’s creative sci-fi twists on Snow White, so I can’t wait to see what she does with this fairy tale. Also: THIS COVER. LOVE ♥ (Note: these are standalones.)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Illustrated Dreamstrider

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: The Illustrated Edition by J.K. Rowling: DUDES. ASDFJKL; I’m constantly going back and forth on whether to pre-order this. I mean, do I need a THIRD copy of this book? But then again, it is illustrated. Also expensive. THIS IS TOO HARD. #booknerdproblems (EDIT: okay I just bought it x_x)

Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith: Spying – through – dreams. This concept sounds suuuper intriguing, so I’m definitely keeping my eyes peeled for reviews.

October 13th

The Immortal Heights Newt's Emerald First & Then

The Immortal Heights by Sherry Thomas: I’ve absolutely adored this series from start to finish. It’s fun, the characters are OH SO charming, and the ship is amaaaazing. This series finale did NOT disappoint.

Newt’s Emerald by Garth Nix: Historical fantasy with genderbending!!! Also, I haven’t read Garth Nix before, so I’m really excited to change that. I hope it works out for me!

First & Then by Emma Mills: I’ve heard this is basically Friday Night Lights meets Pride & Prejudice. Though I haven’t watched Friday Night Lights (yet), I love sports romances, and I looooove Pride & Prejudice. Plus I have it on good authority this is super adorbs. I like the adorbs.

October 20th

Illuminae Velvet Undercover Signs Point To Yes

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: I’ve been dodging the hype for ages now, but it’s ALMOST HERE. Please keep your hype away from me and let me enjoy this in peace ♥

Velvet Undercover by Teri Brown: Teenage spy in World War I, yes yes, I’m excited. Plus, she looks so awesome on that cover.

Signs Point to Yes by Sandy Hall: I thought A Little Something Different was totally adorable last year, so I’m excited to read something else from Sandy Hall. Let’s see how swoony and fluffy she writes when she doesn’t have that 14 POV concept to fall back on.

Which October ’15 titles are you most excited about?

  1. Spinning Starlight, yes!!!! I’m so excited for another book in this world. And I know what you mean about HP, the bad fan in me wasn’t wowed by the first illustrations I saw but seeing more makes me really really want it…. Ahhhhh. First & Then is super adorbs, I preordered a final copy!! Can’t wait to finally get back to the Elemental trilogy too, I need to finish The Perilous Sea. I have an arc of Illuminae and I’ve been dodging hype too. The format really puts me off but everyone swears it’s great, so I’m officially scared hahah.

  2. I was so impressed with The rest of us just live here. I never thought I would love it as much as I did.
Spinning starlight, YES. Get into my hands already 😀
The illustration edition is so expensive. And so pretty.. You can never have too many HP right?
Illuminae intrigues me (but I hate that cover)

  3. Cee

I SO AGREE WITH THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE. Although it isn’t my favorite Patrick Ness book (More Than This still gets to me), I was so pleased to find this book so creative and funny. The relationship between the siblings made me so emotional because of how desperately they need each other in their lives.

Newt’s Emerald will be my first Garth Nix book too, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into that! I hope I love Illuminae as everybody else!
